Gartner’s recently published “Supply Chain Survey 2010” has stated that in order for Supply Chain leaders to gain competitive advantage they must first understand the software delivery models that are available on the market.

No longer is traditional in house licensed software seen as the solution to supply chain demands.  With the emergence of SaaS cloud computing the playing field has been levelled, with Gartner quoting “because SAAS is priced by user or transaction, small and medium-sized businesses can access capabilities previously available only to larger enterprises that could afford multimillion-dollar on-premises licences and implementations”

Transalis has seen a sharp rise in the work it is doing for its more innovative customers who now have the opportunity to create and control business processes that previously were not seen as reality helping to improving the way they exchange and analyse data.

Alternative delivery models for supply chain solutions can, however, provide new or improved capabilities to all users several months or even years sooner than the traditional, on-premises licence, Transalis expects the trend it is seeing in the small to medium sized businesses to continue as we deliver the tools needed to take advantage of Supply Chain Technology and drive business forward.

Transalis welcomes new ideas and opportunities so please speak with us directly to find out how we are “Changing the way companies communicate”

New Transalis service targets supply chain comms cost

EDI vendor delivers freeVAN EDI service to remove VAN traffic operational overheads

Transalis, a global solution provider for electronic data interchange (EDI) managed service solutions, announced the launch of its freeVAN EDI Supply Chain service, at the GS1 UK Annual Conference .

The provider said its freeVAN EDI service will allow large businesses and organisations (hubs) to securely transmit EDI documents with zero value-added network (VAN) traffic costs for the first time.

The service will enable business-to-business (B2B) electronic document exchange between any trading organisations, from the largest retailer to the smallest, independent supplier, according to the provider.

Putting real-world expertise to work

Transalis added that it has worked closely with large retail brands to develop the freeVAN service enabling companies of all sizes to trade electronically. The new service allows large businesses, which have previously had to pay for VAN traffic, to take advantage of the freeVAN service to remove supply chain VAN traffic costs.

The vendor has also bundled its OpenEDI functionality with the freeVAN service to enable businesses to exchange information electronically, regardless of file formats, size of organisation or technical capabilities, it said. Integrating OpenEDI technology could allow any business to comply with any other’s EDI requirements, where the bundled offering is designed to allow hubs to reduce EDI costs and complexity and EDI enable their whole supply chain.

Linking up supply chain networks

Adam Swanson, business development at Transalis, commented: “The combination of freeVAN and OpenEDI allows large companies to trade electronically with all suppliers. FreeVAN offers 100% supply chain EDI enablement with considerably reduced costs, higher productivity and optimised processes plus managed services for web, integrated and supply chain EDI. And, you can remove outdated EDI translation software for seamless EDI integration with your internal systems using Transalis OpenEDI managed services.”

The provider said Argos, Play.com, Microsoft, Tetley, and other hubs use Transalis for their complete order-to-invoice cycle. By working with hubs, Transalis has developed components that deliver better EDI solutions for their trading partners.

Swanson added: “Transalis has incorporated many years experience of this industry, coupled with our retail partners expertise, to develop a bundled solution that meets modern EDI requirements to reduce costs and complexity and to maximise our customers’ existing technology investments.”
