It was a pleasure to work with their EDI team. The quick response to emails and quick turnaround of documents was greatly appreciated. Amazon expects vendors to be integrated within four weeks. Some take much longer than that. The integration of our suppliers takes just a few days from start to finish and includes AS2 testing which tends to take other vendors much longer. Even with having two to three test files per transaction before passing the Amazon validations, the speed at which the requested changes were made by Transalis, was very commendable. #### Experience in The Sectors That Move The Most EDI Data ##### The Global EDI Network If you trade with a hub, a marketplace or a procurement network, you are already close to the Transalis network. The businesses that move early fold compliance into one network now, rather than paying later to untangle a separate tool. Mandate live, act now Live now 2026 Process started, act now Republic of Ireland The PDF trap Emailing a PDF will not satisfy a mandate. Real eInvoicing means structured, machine-readable data sent system to system over a certified network like Peppol. A PDF is a picture of an invoice. It is not an invoice a machine can read. #### The questions buyers ask us most EDI, or Electronic Data Interchange, is the automated exchange of business documents such as orders, invoices and shipping notices between trading partners in a standard digital format. Transalis runs the whole EDI process, so documents pass straight between systems with no manual handling. No. With the Transalis Connect Once model, a single point of access reaches 15,000+ organisations on the network. New partners come within reach without a new technical connection each time. Transalis onboards most new partners in days, not months. The managed service handles mapping, testing and go-live, so your team stays on operations rather than integration work. A Peppol Access Point is a certified gateway that sends and receives eInvoices across the Peppol network, the UK and pan-European standard for government-compliant electronic invoicing. Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point. EDI covers every kind of B2B document: orders, ASNs, invoices, credit notes. eInvoicing refers specifically to government-mandated structured invoice formats sent over networks like Peppol. Transalis handles both through one connection. Transalis is a fully managed service with proactive monitoring. Transalis DataTrack™ gives real-time visibility of every transaction, and the operations team catches issues before they reach your trading partners. Transalis is a managed outcomes provider with fixed, predictable pricing. Unlike per-transaction VAN models that charge you more as you grow, Transalis charges a fixed fee, and it runs as one consistent network on the Spinnaker orchestration engine rather than a patchwork of acquired systems. Supply chain intelligence turns raw EDI transactions into something you can act on. The ASIST layer provides orderbooks, inventory visibility and demand signals across thousands of suppliers, while Transalis DataTrack™ adds real-time transaction monitoring. No. A PDF is an image of a document. An eInvoice is a structured, machine-readable file that meets government standards and travels over a certified network like Peppol. PDFs will not satisfy the coming mandates. Transalis connects to 98% of the UK’s electronically-trading retail market. As a managed outcomes provider, Transalis handles partner onboarding, format translation and compliance, so you can trade with any UK retailer through a single connection. Yes. It’s EDI made simple! Whether you’re an SME using our Transalis OpenEDI™ web portal with a handful of buyers, of a major brand integrating EDI with 1,000’s of suppliers, you raise orders, send invoices etc and we manage the validation and compliance, no software and nothing technical to learn. Both, plus eInvoicing. The strongest setup is hybrid, with each part doing what it does best: EDI for secure, standardised document batches, APIs for real-time data, and eInvoicing for compliance. The world's largest retail hubs still run on EDI and aren't rebuilding. Transalis runs all three over a single connection, so you don't have to pick one. From September 2026, businesses operating in France must send and receive structured eInvoices through a certified route. As a certified Peppol Access Point, Transalis is already getting customers ready well ahead of the deadline. Transalis offers fixed-cost packages with no per-transaction fees. From 1 trading partner to 1,000’s of trading partners and data exchange. Your packages stay flat as your business grows. Transalis is serviceable across 50+ countries with deep European coverage, and its certified Peppol Access Point adds cross-border eInvoicing compliance for Belgium, France, the UK and 50 other markets. Start with data quality. AI is an accelerator, not a foundation: it needs clean, standard data flowing through your supply chain before it can add value. Transalis builds that pipeline through managed EDI and eInvoice data validation and compliance. Yes. Many customers or startups start with their very first retail buyer and easily add more retail buyers and trading partners as they grow. Transalis has taken businesses from a single trading partner to every major European supermarket. One connection. Every partner. #### Your supply chain runs on data. EDI is provided by specialist networks and managed service providers rather than by the retailers or suppliers themselves. Transalis is one such provider, based in the UK, connecting more than 15,000 organisations across over 50 countries through a single connection. What does an EDI provider actually do? An EDI provider translates business documents between the formats each trading partner uses, delivers them securely, and confirms they arrived. Transalis also manages partner onboarding, data mapping, compliance and monitoring, so the customer's own team does not need EDI specialists. Can you give an example of EDI in practice? A supplier receives a purchase order from a retailer straight into its own system, sends back an order confirmation and a despatch advice, then issues the invoice, all automatically. Transalis processes more than 30 million such transactions every year. Has EDI been replaced by anything? No. EDI remains the standard for high-volume trading between businesses, and it now runs alongside eInvoicing, which is becoming mandatory in a growing number of countries. Transalis provides both on one connection, which is why the two are rarely worth buying separately. Do I need EDI and eInvoicing, or just one? Most businesses eventually need both. EDI carries the trading documents between companies; eInvoicing satisfies the tax rules a government sets, such as the UK mandate announced for April 2029. One connection to Transalis covers both. #### Let us connect your business to the world. Our experts are here to help you simplify, automate and grow. ## About Transalis: UK EDI & eInvoicing Provider URL: https://www.transalis.com/about > Transalis connects, digitises and automates supply chains for 15,000+ connections across 50+ countries. ### Connecting organisations, globally. PEPPOL is an EDI protocol designed to simplify purchasing processes between government bodies and private suppliers. It enables trading partners to exchange standardised electronic documents over the PEPPOL EDI network. Standardised electronic documents can include eInvoices, orders, advance shipping notes, catalogues and message-level responses to name but a few. Previously, the supply chain Automation specialist provided free access to their PEPPOL eInvoicing web portal to new NHS suppliers in response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. This move ensured suppliers of life-saving medical equipment could avoid red tape and unnecessary time spent on invoice processing and payment, focusing all their efforts instead on responding to the pandemic. “Aniello Sabatino, Transalis co-founder and Joint Managing Director. “Transalis, is just one of a handful of UK tech firms that has been certified as an AS4 Peppol Provider, meeting the highest level of international public procurement standards. This is another vote of confidence in Transalis’ systematic approach to ensuring customers have a reliable, secure platform for automating transactions, minimising the need for costly manual and paper-based processes and associated errors.” #### Frequently asked questions What is PEPPOL used for? PEPPOL simplifies purchasing between government bodies and private suppliers by letting trading partners exchange standardised electronic documents, including eInvoices, orders, advance shipping notes, catalogues and message level responses, over the PEPPOL EDI network rather than by paper or ad hoc file transfer. What does AS4 Peppol Provider certification mean? It means the company is one of only a handful of UK technology firms certified to the highest level of international public procurement standards, giving customers a reliable, secure platform for automating transactions and minimising costly manual, paper based processes and associated errors. What other accreditations does the company hold besides Peppol? Alongside Peppol certification, it holds a wider set of accreditations including Amazon Selling Partner API, G-Cloud 13 Framework approval, ISO 27001 information security management, Crown Commercial Service and Cyber Essentials, reflecting a broad, standards based approach to secure trading and customer data handling across its whole platform. What kind of documents can be exchanged over the PEPPOL network? Standardised electronic documents including eInvoices, purchase orders, advance shipping notes, catalogues and message level responses can all be exchanged automatically between trading partners connected via a certified PEPPOL Access Point, cutting the need for manual, paper based handling and reducing the risk of errors. #### Our Accreditations Transalis is dedicated to providing the highest level of industry standards to the benefit of its clients and partners. - Amazon Selling Partner API - Transalis gains G-Cloud 13 Framework approval - Transalis join EESPA to define the future of eInvoicing - GS1 - Information Security Management ISO 27001 - Crown Commercial Services - Cyber Essentials - CIPS ##### Ready to automate your supply chain? When a new partner joins the network, every existing member can reach them instantly. ##### Create Your system creates a document (an order, invoice or ASN) in whatever format it already uses. ##### Translate Spinnaker translates it into your partner’s required EDI format: TRADACOMS, EANCOM, EDIFACT, X12 and more. ##### Route Transalis routes and delivers it securely across the network, with no per-partner setup. ##### Monitor Transalis DataTrack™ watches every message in real time; the managed team resolves issues before they affect trading. Product entry points #### Choose your EDI All three are fully managed. Start where you are today; the network stays the same as you grow. ##### Web EDI EDI without IT overhead. Ideal for a first retail EDI relationship, and for teams with no IT support. first retail buyer · no technical staff ##### Integrated EDI EDI wired directly into your ERP, accounting or warehouse system. Orders, invoices, dispatch notes, inventory updates and acknowledgements flow automatically between your systems, your 3PL partners and your trading partners, eliminating duplicate data entry and manual errors. Capability & glossary #### EDI documents & standards The formats major retailers require, defined plainly and handled automatically. You never need to know which standard each partner uses. ##### What is an EDI 850? A purchase order sent electronically from buyer to supplier. Transalis receives and translates it into your system’s format automatically. ##### What is an EDI 810? An electronic invoice sent from supplier to buyer. It carries the structured data a retailer’s system validates on receipt, with no manual keying. ##### What is an EDI 856 (ASN)? An Advance Shipping Notice detailing the contents and timing of a shipment. Retailer gates check it before goods arrive, so accuracy here prevents rejected deliveries. ##### TRADACOMS vs EDIFACT vs ANSI X12: what’s the difference? TRADACOMS is the UK EDI standard, EDIFACT is the international EDI standard used widely across Europe; ANSI X12 is the North American standard. All define how business documents are structured. Transalis translates between them automatically. ##### What is AS2? A secure internet protocol for transmitting EDI documents directly between partners. Transalis manages the protocol layer, so your team never configures it. ##### What is a VAN, and what replaces it? A Value Added Network is a legacy third-party network that routes EDI messages, often billed per character or per transaction. The Transalis Trading Network replaces the VAN model with a single managed connection and predictable fixed pricing. ##### Which document types do retailers like Sainsbury’s require? Transalis handles the document types and formats required by major retailers (Sainsbury’s, Argos, Asda and more) automatically. You don’t need to know which format each one uses; the managed service maps to each retailer’s spec. ERP & systems #### Integrate once. Never re-integrate. Transalis connects to your ERP, marketplace or warehouse system through a single integration point. As your technology evolves (new ERP, new channels, new partners), your Transalis connection stays the same. Connects to 50+ business systems SAP · NetSuite · Dynamics 365 · Sage · Xero · Brightpearl · Linnworks · WooCommerce · Shopify · Amazon · eBay · + more #### Four reasons the network wins ##### Connect Once Network 15,000+ organisations reachable through one integration point. New partners need no new connection, contract or cost. Unlike per-partner setup models, adding a trading partner on Transalis is a routing change, not a project. ##### Managed Outcomes Format translation, onboarding, compliance and error resolution are all run by Transalis. Zero technical knowledge required from your team. Unlike technical-only platforms, Transalis runs the orchestration for you, so you buy the result, not the toolkit. ##### Growth-Aligned Pricing Predictable fixed-cost packages. No per-transaction fees, no per-character charges, so your costs stay flat as your volume grows. Unlike per-transaction VAN models, Transalis charges a predictable fixed fee, so success is never a penalty. ##### Supply-Chain Intelligence Transalis DataTrack™ gives real-time transaction visibility; ASIST turns EDI data into orderbooks, inventory and demand signals across thousands of suppliers. Unlike providers who treat data as passive payload, Transalis puts your transaction data to work. The hybrid future #### EDI isn’t dead. It’s going hybrid. The future of B2B data exchange is hybrid: EDI for structured document exchange, APIs for real-time data, and eInvoicing for government compliance. They coexist. Transalis orchestrates all three through one managed connection, so you don’t choose between EDI and APIs, and you don’t bolt on a separate portal when an eInvoicing mandate lands. A mandate on the horizon? #### Numbers over adjectives 15,000+ organisations. 50+ countries. 98% of the UK’s electronically-trading retail market. Here’s what that looks like in practice. UK poultry supplier Built EDI inside its own ERP to save budget. A retailer rule change broke it at peak trading. £35,000+ lost in two weeks, resolved by Transalis in days. Global health & beauty group Trapped on a legacy per-character VAN, with day-long processing and repeated validation errors. Days → seconds processing time, with errors removed at swap-over. UK beverage manufacturer Rekeying emailed PDF orders by hand, generating a steady stream of errors and credit notes. 572 hours saved a year · 367 order errors eliminated. EDI exchanges business documents such as purchase orders, shipping notices and invoices automatically between computer systems, replacing manual processing. With Transalis, you connect once to the Trading Network. Each document is received, validated, transformed into the format your trading partner needs and delivered, and new trading partners can be added in hours or days. How does EDI work? EDI lets businesses exchange commercial information electronically, securely, and automatically. Businesses exchange purchase orders, acknowledgements, shipping notices, proof of delivery, invoices, and inventory updates. Processing these documents manually takes time, increases costs, and creates opportunities for errors and delays. Electronic Data Interchange replaces manual processing by exchanging business documents automatically between computer systems. But businesses use different systems, document formats, and connection methods. Managing them all can quickly become complex. Connect once to our Trading Network, and we manage the connections to your trading partners. When a customer sends a purchase order, it is received, validated, transformed into the required format, and delivered to the supplier. EDI works both ways. Acknowledgements, shipping notices, proof of delivery, invoices and inventory updates can flow automatically. One connection reaches buyers, suppliers, logistics providers, government organisations, and other trading partners around the world. As your business grows, new trading partners can be added in hours or days, without rebuilding your EDI infrastructure. The result is less manual processing, fewer errors, faster onboarding, greater visibility, and more efficient supply-chain operations. Our Trading Network connects over fifteen thousand organisations across more than fifty countries, exchanging over thirty million documents a year. Connect once, reach anyone, run everything. #### EDI questions, answered plainly What is EDI and how does it work? Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the automated exchange of standardised business documents (orders, invoices, shipping notices) between trading partners’ systems, with no manual handling. Transalis manages the entire EDI process so documents flow automatically between you and 15,000+ partners. What is the difference between TRADACOMS, EDIFACT and ANSI X12? TRADACOMS is the UK EDI standard, EDIFACT is the international EDI standard used widely across Europe; ANSI X12 is the North American standard. All define how business documents are structured. Transalis translates between TRADACOMS, EDIFACT, X12 and all other EDI formats automatically, so you never manage them yourself. Do I need a new connection for every trading partner? No. With Transalis’s Connect Once model, a single integration point reaches 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries. New partners join the network without requiring new technical connections, contracts or costs. Can I do EDI without technical staff? Yes. Web EDI is a fully managed web portal where your team processes orders, sends invoices and manages compliance through a browser, with no software installation or technical knowledge required. How much does EDI cost in the UK? Transalis offers predictable, fixed-cost packages with no per-transaction fees, so your costs stay flat as your business grows, whether you start with Web EDI or run Enterprise EDI at scale. How long does EDI onboarding take? Transalis onboards most new partners in days, not months. The managed service handles mapping, testing and go-live, so your team stays focused on operations. What is web EDI? Web EDI lets suppliers exchange standardised orders, invoices and dispatch notices through a web browser, without installing software. Transalis Web EDI is a fully managed portal designed for suppliers starting their first retail EDI relationship. Is EDI still relevant, or should I switch to APIs? Both, plus eInvoicing. The strongest setup is hybrid, with each part doing what it does best: EDI for secure, standardised document batches, APIs for real-time data, and eInvoicing for compliance. The world's largest retail hubs still run on EDI and aren't rebuilding. Transalis runs all three over a single connection, so you don't have to pick one. A Value Added Network (VAN) is a legacy third-party network that routes EDI messages, often billed per character or transaction. The Transalis Trading Network replaces the VAN model with a single managed connection and predictable fixed pricing. Who are the best managed EDI providers in the UK? Transalis is a UK managed EDI provider connecting to 98% of the UK’s electronically-trading retail market. As a managed-outcomes provider, Transalis handles onboarding, translation and compliance so you trade with any UK retailer through one connection. What makes Transalis different from other providers? Transalis is a managed-outcomes provider with predictable fixed pricing. Unlike per-transaction models, Transalis charges a fixed fee; unlike acquisition-assembled platforms, Transalis runs on a single, consistent engine (Spinnaker) with built-in supply-chain intelligence. What EDI documents do retailers like Sainsbury’s require? Retailers typically require electronic purchase orders (850), invoices (810) and advance shipping notices (856), in specific formats. Transalis handles every required document type and format automatically, so suppliers don’t need to know each retailer’s spec. What happens if my EDI system goes down? Transalis is a fully managed service with proactive monitoring. Transalis DataTrack™ provides real-time transaction visibility, and the operations team resolves issues before they affect your trading. Can I start small and scale later? Yes. Many Transalis customers begin with Web EDI for their first retail buyer and scale to Integrated and Enterprise EDI as they grow, from a single trading partner to every major European supermarket. Electronic invoicing (eInvoicing) is the exchange of a structured, machine-readable invoice, in a format such as XML or UBL, sent directly between a supplier’s and a buyer’s systems, with no manual handling. A PDF or scanned image is not a structured e-invoice: it’s a digital picture of paper that still has to be keyed in or screen-scraped. Transalis delivers eInvoicing as a fully managed outcome, we convert the format, route it over the Peppol network, and keep it compliant, so valid invoices flow system-to-system, and stay compliant as the rules change. eInvoicing in one line “A PDF is a picture of paper. A structured e-invoice is data systems can read: no typing, no scanning.” #### The UK 2029 mandate, and why the clock is already ticking The rules are set. The businesses that get ahead of them turn a compliance deadline into an operational advantage, the ones that wait pay for the scramble. The government has announced that from April 2029, eInvoicing will be mandatory for all VAT-registered UK businesses, covering B2B and B2G (B2C is excluded). PDFs, JPEGs and Word files won’t qualify. The law is not yet in place. The model (announced June 2026) The UK has named Peppol as the interoperability framework for the mandate, a decentralised four-corner model, with no central HMRC portal and no real-time reporting at launch. You’ll route through a certified Access Point, like Transalis. The full implementation roadmap, including technical standards, is due at the Budget 2026, and a phased introduction, larger businesses first, is on the table. Every UK public body must already accept eInvoices, and NHS Supply Chain already requires its suppliers to use Peppol. Why the clock is already ticking EU mandates land first, France from September 2026, with Germany, Spain, Poland and Belgium (live) close behind. A UK business invoicing an EU partner may already need Peppol now, some institutions accept nothing else. Waiting for 2029 can freeze international trade today. Am I affected? VAT-registered and selling B2B or to the public sector → yes. How to prepare - 1Confirm your VAT and B2B/B2G status. - 2Clean your master ERP data, the hidden failure point; dirty data triggers validation rejections. - 3Connect to a Peppol Access Point. - 4Bring your trading partners on, around 40% of SMEs aren’t ready. EU-wide, this is driven by ViDA and EN 16931, see how the standards fit together below. Where it breaks #### Three ways legacy invoicing quietly costs you Most invoicing pain traces back to one of these patterns. None of them is really a software problem, they’re all fragmentation. ##### The PDF Trap Rekeying emailed PDFs into your ERP breeds errors, and every keystroke is a chance for a mistake to reach a customer. One beverage manufacturer tracked 367 order errors a year this way, and 572 staff-hours lost. ##### The DIY-ERP Illusion Building eInvoicing natively in your ERP looks cheaper, until a validation rule changes and the build breaks at the worst moment. A poultry supplier’s in-house Dynamics build failed and drew £35,000+ in chargebacks in two weeks. ##### The Point-Solution Sprawl A separate portal for every mandate fractures your data estate. Finance panic-buys, IT loses control, and you pay twice: a band-aid now, an overhaul later. Five mandates, five portals, five things to maintain, and invoices divorced from the rest of your supply chain. There’s a better way.One connection. Every mandate. Fully managed. The managed model #### One connection. Every mandate. Fully managed. Transalis runs on a managed-outcomes model. We convert your formats, route over Peppol, monitor compliance and resolve issues, so you get compliant invoices without running software. At the centre is the Transalis Trading Network: a single integration point that reaches 15,000+ organisations. Peppol itself works like a mobile network, connect to one Access Point and you can reach everyone on it. And every new partner or message type makes the network more valuable to everyone already on it. ##### Create Your system creates an invoice in whatever format it already uses. ##### Convert Transalis converts it into the required structured format (Peppol BIS / EN 16931 / UBL). ##### Route Transalis routes it over the Peppol network to your partner’s Access Point, with no per-partner setup. ##### Monitor Transalis DataTrack™ monitors delivery and compliance in real time; the managed team resolves issues before they affect trading. The same rail later carries your orders, forecasts and self-billing. eInvoicing is just the first payload. Inside the platform #### Every eInvoice, compliant and visible Each invoice is structured, validated and cleared to the right standard. With Transalis eInvoiceTrack™, compliant, cleared and paid states are visible on every document, so finance and compliance always see the same truth. 19 Nov 2025 10 Nov 2025 8 Nov 2025 5 Nov 2025 #### Peppol eInvoicing and the standards, explained The terms the mandates use, defined plainly, so you never have to become the expert. Peppol eInvoicing is simply structured invoicing sent over the Peppol network, here’s what the key terms mean. ##### What is Peppol? An open, secure global network (a “four-corner model”) that lets different ERP and finance systems exchange structured documents. Like a mobile network, you join through one Access Point and reach everyone on it. ##### What is a Peppol Access Point? A certified provider that connects you to the Peppol network. Transalis is an authorised AS4 Peppol Access Point. ##### What is a structured e-invoice? Machine-readable invoice data (XML or UBL) sent system-to-system, not a PDF. ##### What is Peppol BIS? The standard business-document specification used on Peppol, built on EN 16931. ##### What is EN 16931? The European standard that defines a compliant e-invoice; both the UK and EU mandates reference it. ##### What is ViDA? VAT in the Digital Age: the EU reform mandating structured eInvoicing and digital VAT reporting across member states. Peppol isn’t a portal to log into. It’s a global trading passport. Product entry points #### Choose your eInvoicing All three are fully managed and Peppol-ready. Start where you are today; the network stays the same as you grow. ##### Web eInvoicing Compliant Peppol eInvoicing without touching your accounting system. Create, send and receive structured eInvoices through a secure managed portal, the fast route to a first mandate, with no IT resource required. a first mandate · no technical staff ##### Integrated eInvoicing eInvoicing wired straight into your ERP or accounting system. Invoices are raised, Transalis converts them to Peppol / EN 16931, routed and reconciled automatically, both the invoices you issue and the supplier invoices you receive, with no manual rekeying. ERP-integrated · growing volumes ##### Enterprise eInvoicing Multi-country eInvoicing on one connection. Keep pace with Continuous Transaction Controls (CTC) and new mandates across every market you trade in, with the reporting, validation and workflow depth large operations need. multinational · high volume · multiple mandates Predictable, fixed-cost, no per-transaction penalty for growing. #### Four reasons the network wins A Peppol access point is fast becoming table stakes, several UK providers now offer one. What’s different about Transalis is what sits behind the access point: the same connection reaches a 15,000-partner supply-chain network and turns invoice data into live business intelligence. You’re not buying a compliance link; you’re joining the network that compliance rides on. ##### An authorised Peppol Access Point, UK-native Built for the UK 2029 Peppol model and live across the EU. But it’s the on-ramp to the wider network, not a standalone compliance link, that’s the part a point solution can’t match. ##### A managed outcome, not software Format conversion, routing, compliance and error resolution all run by Transalis. Zero technical knowledge required. Unlike platforms you still have to operate, Transalis runs the orchestration for you, you buy the result, not the toolkit. ##### One connection, every mandate A new country or rule needs no new integration. Compliance runs in the background, IT keeps one clean environment, and finance gets instant compliance. Unlike a portal per mandate, Transalis heals the finance-versus-IT rift instead of widening it. ##### Predictable pricing and real intelligence Fixed-cost, with no per-transaction success penalty, and Transalis DataTrack™ and ASIST turn invoice data into live orderbooks, stock and inventory insight. Unlike pay-per-character networks that treat data as dead payload, Transalis puts your data to work. The hybrid future #### EDI, APIs and eInvoicing: one network, not three EDI is the heavy-duty backbone of retail and logistics; APIs are the fast couriers for real-time data; eInvoicing is compliance. They coexist. Transalis orchestrates all three through one managed connection, Transalis OpenEDI™ and the Spinnaker engine, so you don’t bolt on a standalone eInvoicing tool when a mandate lands, and you don’t run three integrations. the heavy-duty backbone of retail and logistics the fast couriers for real-time data APIs aren’t killing EDI; they’re making it better. Trading with major retailers too? Watch & learn #### How does eInvoicing work? eInvoicing sends structured electronic invoices between suppliers, buyers and governments, so nobody rekeys them. With Transalis, you create the invoice in your existing ERP or accounting system. We convert it into the required format, validate it against each country's rules and deliver it over the Peppol network straight into your buyer's system, reporting it to the tax authority where a country requires that. How does eInvoicing work? eInvoicing allows businesses to exchange structured electronic invoices quickly, accurately and compliantly. eInvoices travel electronically between suppliers, buyers and governments, reducing manual processing and errors. Transalis converts your invoice into the required format, routes it over the Peppol network and keeps it compliant, so it flows system-to-system. Is eInvoicing mandatory in the UK? It will be. The government has announced that from April 2029, eInvoicing will be mandatory for all VAT-registered UK businesses, covering B2B and B2G. B2C is excluded, and PDFs or scanned images won’t qualify. The law is not yet in place: the implementation roadmap is due at Budget 2026 on 28 October 2026. Who is required to do eInvoicing in the UK? Under the announced plans, any VAT-registered business selling to other businesses or to the public sector, from April 2029. Some buyers require it already: NHS Supply Chain asks its suppliers to use Peppol today. What is structured eInvoicing? A structured e-invoice is invoice data in a machine-readable format such as XML or UBL that a buyer’s system can process directly. It’s different from a PDF, which still has to be read, keyed or scanned by a person. What is Peppol and how does it work? Peppol is an open, secure global network that lets different ERP and finance systems exchange structured documents. Like a mobile network, you connect through one Access Point and can reach everyone else on it. What is Peppol eInvoicing? Peppol eInvoicing is structured, compliant invoicing sent over the Peppol network between certified Access Points. Transalis is an authorised AS4 Peppol Access Point, so you connect once and exchange compliant eInvoices with any partner on the network. A Peppol Access Point is a certified provider that connects you to the Peppol network. Transalis is an authorised AS4 Peppol Access Point. How do I send invoices through the Peppol network? You connect to a certified Access Point, which validates your invoice, converts it to the Peppol format and routes it to your partner’s Access Point. With Transalis, that whole flow is managed, create the invoice in your system and we handle the rest. What is the difference between EDI and eInvoicing? EDI is the automated exchange of business documents (orders, invoices, shipping notices) between trading partners. eInvoicing is the compliant, structured exchange of invoices, often government-mandated. They coexist, and Transalis handles both on one connection. What is ViDA / EN 16931? EN 16931 is the European standard that defines a compliant e-invoice. ViDA (VAT in the Digital Age) is the EU reform mandating structured eInvoicing and digital VAT reporting across member states. Both are referenced by the mandates. Can small businesses do eInvoicing? Yes. With Web eInvoicing you get compliant on the Peppol network through a managed portal, no in-house technical staff and no change to your accounting system. Do I need a separate tool for each country’s mandate? No. One managed Transalis connection keeps pace with each mandate as it lands, so you never bolt on a separate portal per country. What is the best eInvoicing software for UK businesses? For UK businesses, the strongest option is a Peppol-ready managed network rather than a standalone tool. Transalis is an authorised AS4 Peppol Access Point that handles onboarding, conversion and compliance on one connection, built for the UK 2029 mandate. How do I prepare for the 2029 mandate? Confirm your VAT and B2B/B2G status, clean your master ERP data (dirty data causes validation rejections), connect to a Peppol Access Point, and bring your trading partners on. Transalis manages each step. Will I get chargebacks if my invoices are wrong? Invoices that fail validation can be rejected, and in retail that often means chargebacks. A managed connection validates and monitors every message before it reaches your partner, so errors are caught before they cost you. Be ready with one connection #### The mandate is coming. The point of view #### What if eInvoice compliance became a business advantage? eInvoicing mandates are accelerating around the world. That can look like another compliance requirement. We see something bigger: a faster, cleaner and more connected way to do business. A structured eInvoice travels as data, not a document waiting to be keyed in. That means fewer errors, more automation, better financial information and faster processing and payment. The UK and EU governments cite fewer errors, less manual processing, improved security and faster payment among the benefits of Peppol eInvoicing. The real opportunity isn’t becoming compliant. See when every eInvoice is validated and delivered, chase fewer invoices, and give customers the clean structured data they need to pay you faster. ##### Tax & compliance. Build a visible record of your eInvoice activity across customers and markets, ready for increasingly digital VAT and tax compliance. ##### IT & technology. One managed connection instead of country-by-country integrations. Transalis manages standards, formats, Peppol connectivity and changing rules behind the scenes. #### Transalis eInvoiceTrack™ vs an invoice portal An invoice portal gives you somewhere to upload an invoice. Transalis eInvoiceTrack™ gives you visibility of the structured data journey that makes eInvoicing work. Because it tracks the transaction itself, Transalis eInvoiceTrack™ shows whether an eInvoice was correctly structured, validated, transmitted and delivered. That matters as governments move away from PDFs and manual invoice processes towards structured, machine-readable eInvoices that pass directly between finance systems. Peppol provides the interoperability framework that lets buyers and suppliers exchange these documents across sectors, service providers and borders. That’s the difference between complying with one requirement and building an eInvoice capability ready for what comes next. #### Common questions about Transalis eInvoiceTrack™ When will eInvoicing become mandatory in the UK? The government has announced that eInvoicing will be mandatory for B2B and B2G VAT invoices from April 2029. It is not yet law: the implementation roadmap is due at Budget 2026 on 28 October 2026, with detailed standards and legislation to follow. Transalis eInvoiceTrack™ lets businesses build the capability early rather than waiting for the deadline. Why should we move to eInvoicing before we have to? Because compliance is only one benefit. Structured eInvoicing reduces manual processing and errors, improves data quality, strengthens security and helps accelerate invoice processing and payment. Moving early gives your business time to optimise the process before the mandate makes it essential. Is Peppol only for Europe? No. Peppol is an international interoperability framework, with Peppol Authorities and certified Access Points operating across many regions. Singapore’s national InvoiceNow system is based on Peppol, and Australia also uses Peppol for eInvoicing. What happens when an eInvoice fails validation? Transalis eInvoiceTrack™ flags the issue and shows your team what happened, helping errors get resolved before they become delayed invoices, payment enquiries or compliance problems. Do we need a different eInvoice solution for every country? No. Transalis provides one managed eInvoicing layer that connects your systems with different customers, networks and country requirements. As mandates evolve, Transalis manages the technical complexity while eInvoiceTrack™ gives you one place to see what is happening. See it live #### Turn eInvoice compliance into your passport for growth Every eInvoice, every customer, every status, live and in one place. Transalis DataTrack™ gives your team total, real-time visibility of every transaction on the network. No code. No EDI experts on staff. Just one clear view of what’s actually happening. Trusted by 15,000+ organisations, including Argos · AS Watson – Superdrug 15,000+ connected organisations on the network 30m+ transactions processed every year 7bn+ invoice value processed every year 98% of the UK’s electronically-trading retail market 50+ countries we can reach #### What is Transalis DataTrack™? Transalis DataTrack™ is a real-time supply chain visibility platform that tracks every EDI transaction across your trading network: what was sent, received, processed and delivered, all in one dashboard. It turns raw exchange data into live operational intelligence, so your team catches an issue before it becomes a dispute. (EDI, electronic data interchange, is the standardised, system-to-system exchange of business documents such as orders, dispatch notes and invoices.) Transalis DataTrack™ is how we hand the visibility back to you. Transalis is a managed outcomes provider for B2B integration, EDI and eInvoicing. The point of view #### Why can’t we see what’s happening in our supply chain? Most businesses pour money into tracking the physical supply chain, where the lorry is, when the pallet lands, and leave the digital one in the dark. That’s the wrong way round. The physical supply chain only moves as fast as the data beneath it. Knowing a delivery is ten minutes away means nothing if its dispatch note failed validation and the gate turns the driver away. A tracking map shows you the symptom. It never shows you the cause. Real visibility isn’t a map of your lorries. It’s knowing every message arrived, matched and processed, the moment it happened. Visibility is an integration problem, not a tracking problem. Transalis DataTrack™ solves the one that actually stops your goods. What you can see #### What can you see with Transalis DataTrack™? ##### Live status on every message. Sent, received, processed or failed: every transaction, updated in real time. No more “did the order go through?” ##### Full transaction transparency. Follow any document from start to finish, including the original file, every conversion and every timestamp. Nothing disappears into a black box. ##### Find anything in seconds. Powerful filters and search across every location and trading partner. The document you need is one query away, so it never becomes a support ticket. ##### Errors, caught early. Detailed error insight flags a problem the moment it appears, and tells your team exactly what to fix. A failed message never gets the chance to become a chargeback. ##### Export in a click. Pull any view into Excel with precise timestamps, ready for a report, an audit or a conversation with a partner. ##### Fewer support tickets. Because your team can see and resolve issues themselves, the day-to-day dependency on technical support falls away. Inside the platform #### See DataTrack in action Every document, every partner, every route, tracked end to end. Search any message and follow its full journey, live. ##### Find any document in seconds Search every order, response, despatch note and invoice moving across your network, with sender, receiver, message type and live status on one screen. DESADV · SHP_006240 webmethods → acushnet End to end in 4 seconds The managed model #### How does Transalis DataTrack™ work? Transalis DataTrack™ sits on top of the Transalis Trading Network and reads every transaction flowing through it. Connect once, and it consolidates data from your EDI messages, warehouse management and ERP systems into a single view. No new integration project. No extra software for your team to run. ##### Connect once Integrate your ERP and systems to the network a single time. ##### Data flows in Every order, dispatch note and invoice is captured as it moves, across every partner and location. ##### You see everything One live dashboard for the whole team, from operations to finance. The sophistication stays under the bonnet. Your team just gets the answer. Who it’s for #### Who is Transalis DataTrack™ for? ##### Supply chain & operations. Verify every transaction in real time, settle partner disputes with a timestamped record, and spot bottlenecks before they bite. ##### Finance & compliance. Confirm that invoices and orders actually landed and matched. That’s evidence you can stand behind, instead of a promise you have to chase. ##### IT & technology. One managed view in place of a stack of monitoring scripts. Fewer escalations, because the business can answer its own questions. A UK beverage manufacturer caught failures the moment they appeared, eliminating 367 order errors and saving 572 staff-hours a year. order errors eliminated staff-hours saved a year #### Transalis DataTrack™ vs a tracking dashboard A freight tracker tells you where things are. Transalis DataTrack™ tells you whether the data that moves them actually worked. Because it reads the transactions themselves, Transalis DataTrack™ catches the failures a location map can’t see: the rejected dispatch note, the mismatched order, the invoice that was never processed. These are the failures that stop deliveries, trigger chargebacks and start disputes, and they’re invisible to anything watching only the physical journey. That’s the difference between knowing where your supply chain is and knowing that it works. Watch & learn #### How to Gain Greater Visibility of Supply Chain Performance Transalis DataTrack™ gives real-time visibility of every EDI transaction across your supply chain: sent, received, processed and delivered, all in one dashboard. Integrating EDI into your ERP system lets you collect and distribute supplier performance and sales data almost instantly, supporting better allocation of funds and resources. The ongoing tension between reducing costs and delivering value to customers has led many retailers to adopt dropship. This offers a media savings and storage space, stock management and logistics, by integrating an EDI solution into their ERP system. Our client was able to collect and distribute almost instantly critical data on the supplier performance and sales revenue, leading to better allocation of funds and resources. We dive into this further, revealing the benefits of greater data visibility at our latest report. Transalis DataTrack™ integrates with major ERPs, marketplaces and warehouse management systems through one point of access, and brings their data into a single view. What happens when a message fails? Transalis DataTrack™ flags a failed or delayed message immediately and shows exactly what went wrong, so an error gets fixed in minutes, before it turns into a rejected delivery or a chargeback. Transalis runs your entire marketplace operation as a managed outcome. Orders, despatch and invoicing flow automatically across Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop, Mirakl, Zalando, Wayfair, Walmart and Shopify, connected straight to your own systems. One connection. Every channel. Add markets without adding headcount. A certified Amazon Selling Partner · 15,000+ connections · reach across 50+ countries Integrated with the world's main marketplaces #### What is marketplace integration? Marketplace integration is the automated connection between your own systems and the marketplaces you sell on, so orders, stock, despatch and invoices move between them without anyone rekeying a thing. Instead of logging into Amazon, eBay and every marketplace portal by hand, your systems and each channel exchange data directly. Transalis delivers this as a managed outcome: we connect the channels, translate the formats and watch every transaction for you. And the same connection reaches the UK’s grocery retailers, so you sell on the marketplaces and supply the supermarkets through a single point of access. In one line Connect once. Reach anyone. One integration, every channel, both worlds. Where it breaks #### Why is multichannel selling so much work? Because most sellers are holding it together by hand. Three patterns show up again and again. ##### The portal tax. A tab open for Amazon, another for eBay, a third for TikTok Shop, every order rekeyed into your ERP. It is the PDF trap in a new costume: slow, manual, and quietly expensive. One beverage supplier we work with was losing hundreds of hours a year to it, and making avoidable order errors along the way. ##### The headcount trap. Every new marketplace becomes another person to run it. Growth turns into a hiring problem instead of a sales one. ##### The two-vendor split. One system to sell on the marketplaces, a separate EDI provider to supply the supermarkets. Two integrations, two invoices, two things to break. There is one connection for all of it. The managed model #### How does Transalis marketplace connectivity work? Transalis runs on a managed-outcomes model. We handle the complexity (channel connection, format translation, monitoring, error resolution) so you get the result without running any software. At the centre sits the Transalis Trading Network: 15,000+ organisations reachable through a single integration. A marketplace order lands: Amazon, eBay, TikTok Shop, Mirakl and more. Transalis translates it into your system’s format and routes it straight in. Despatch and invoice data flow back out to the channel automatically, in the format that channel requires. Transalis DataTrack™ watches every message in real time, and the managed team resolves issues before they touch your trading. The same connection reaches Argos and the UK’s major supermarkets. Marketplaces and retail, in one pipe. #### Amazon, done right Transalis is a certified Amazon Selling Partner. Whether you trade through Seller Central or supply as an Amazon Vendor, we automate the order, despatch and invoice flow and keep you compliant with Amazon’s requirements, managed end to end, with no in-house Amazon specialist required. We would be happy to provide a few comments to you on the Transalis OpenEDI™ integration process with Amazon. Amazon.com EDI Team ERP & systems #### Integrate once. Never re-integrate. Transalis connects to your ERP, marketplace or warehouse system through a single integration point. As your technology evolves (new ERP, new channels, new partners), your Transalis connection stays the same. Integrated with the world's major business systems #### Why Transalis for marketplace connectivity ##### Managed, not manual. Orders, despatch, invoicing and compliance are run by Transalis. There are no portals for your team to babysit. You get the outcome; we swallow the complexity. ##### Marketplaces and retail, one connection. Sell on Amazon and supply the supermarkets through the same integration. It is one network built for both, not a marketplace-only connector bolted onto a separate retail setup. ##### Add channels without adding headcount. New markets don’t mean new hires. The network absorbs the growth, so your team stays the size it is while your reach doesn’t. ##### Live business intelligence. DataTrack™ gives you total visibility of every transaction. ASIST turns marketplace demand into orderbook, inventory and stock signal, data working for you, not sitting idle. #### The network is already doing this at scale - 15,000+ connections across a network that reaches 50+ countries. - 7bn+ in invoice value and 30m+ transactions processed every year. - Trusted by names you know: Argos, AS Watson, Superdrug and Amazon. - A certified Amazon Selling Partner, so your Amazon trading is handled by a partner Amazon itself has vetted. - One beverage supplier cut out hundreds of hours of manual order handling a year by moving off portals and onto the network. #### Selling on marketplaces and supplying retailers Brands that run marketplace and retailer orders through one Transalis connection. - DIY & HomeJanuary 2020Case Study: simplehumanA case study for manufacturers and retailers on the benefits of a fully managed, easy-to-use digital trading platform for both wholesale relationships and dropshipping.Read the story - MarketplacesJune 2021Wayfair and the digital era: are suppliers prepared? How can suppliers be prepared for the digital era after the recent growth for Wayfair and other online retail?Read the story - Health & BeautyDecember 2019Case Study: The Hut GroupThe Hut Groups uses Transalis EDI to manage the retailers full B2B electronic enablement for over 1,000 suppliers.Read the story #### Marketplace connectivity, answered plainly Marketplace integration is the automated connection between your systems and the marketplaces you sell on, so orders, stock, despatch and invoices move between them without manual handling. Transalis manages the whole flow for you, across every channel. Can I sell on marketplaces and supply supermarkets from one system? Yes. The Transalis Trading Network reaches both the major online marketplaces and the UK’s grocery retailers through a single connection, so you don’t run one system for Amazon and a separate one for the supermarkets. Which marketplaces can I connect to? Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Walmart Marketplace, TikTok Shop, Wayfair, Zalando, Mirakl and B&Q Marketplace today, with more added to the network over time. Connect once and reach all of them. How do I meet Amazon’s vendor requirements? Transalis is a certified Amazon Selling Partner. We automate the order, despatch and invoice flow for both Seller Central and Amazon Vendor, and keep you compliant, no in-house Amazon expertise needed. How much does marketplace connectivity cost? Transalis works on predictable, fixed-cost packages, no per-order fees, no charge that grows every time you sell more. Your costs stay flat as your channels grow. Talk to us to map the right package. What’s the difference between a channel manager and managed connectivity? A channel manager is a dashboard your team logs into and runs. Managed connectivity is the outcome, run for you: Transalis connects the channels, handles the data and resolves the errors, so there’s no dashboard to operate. Do I need to add staff to sell on more marketplaces? No. Adding a channel doesn’t add operational load, because Transalis manages it. The network absorbs new marketplaces, so your team stays the same size as your reach grows. How long does it take to add a new marketplace? Days, not months. The managed team handles the connection, mapping and testing, so a new channel goes live without pulling your people off their day job. Is it better to use APIs or EDI to connect a marketplace? Both have their place, and you shouldn’t have to choose. Transalis orchestrates whichever a given channel needs (EDI, API or file) through one managed connection, so the right method runs under the bonnet without you managing it. How is Transalis different from a standard channel-integration tool? Most tools are software you run, and they stop at the marketplaces. Transalis is fully managed, and the same connection reaches the UK’s supermarkets as well as the marketplaces, with live business intelligence built in. Ready to sell everywhere #### Every channel you sell on. One connection that runs it. Transalis manages marketplace trading for 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries. One connection. Every marketplace. Every retailer. Fully managed. # Networks ## Trading Network: 15,000+ Connections URL: https://www.transalis.com/trading-network > Join the Transalis Trading Network and connect instantly with 15,000+ retailers, suppliers and trading partners already onboarded across the network. How you join #### Retailers and suppliers, hubs and spokes There are two ways onto the network, and both come down to a single connection. ##### As a retailer, you're the hub. A B2B trading network is a shared connection that lets thousands of companies exchange orders, invoices and despatch notices without building a separate link to each other. The Transalis Trading Network is a managed one, with 15,000+ organisations already on it. What is the network effect, and why does it matter here? It means your one connection is worth more the more organisations are on the network. With 15,000+ already trading across the Transalis Trading Network, a single connection reaches all of them. Do I have to join a network to trade with a retailer? Often, yes. Many retailers require suppliers to trade electronically through a network. Transalis makes joining a days-not-months job, and one connection reaches every retailer on the network, not just one. Who is on the Transalis Trading Network? 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries, including major global brands, high-street retailers, supermarkets, blue-chips, and online and marketplace retailers and their suppliers. If you trade with the big retail names, the odds are they are already here. How do suppliers get onboarded? Transalis handles it for you: mapping your data to each retailer's format, testing it, and taking you live. You don't need an EDI or eInvoice specialist in-house. How long does onboarding take? Days, not months, for most suppliers. The managed team does the technical work, so your team stays focused on trading. Is one connection really enough to reach all my retailers? Yes. That's the point of the network: you connect once, and reach every retailer and partner already on it. You don't set up a new link each time you add a buyer. Can I see that my orders and invoices actually arrived? Yes. Transalis DataTrack™ gives you real-time visibility of every message across the network, so nothing goes missing in the dark. Ready to join #### Join the network your partners are already on. 15,000+ organisations trade across the Transalis Trading Network every day. Transalis Integrations Network ### Connect once. Trade with thousands. One connection to the Transalis Integrations Network plugs Transalis OpenEDI™ and eInvoicing into the business systems you already run, and reaches the 15,000+ organisations already on it. No integrations to build. No connections to maintain. The network is already there; you join it once. Trusted by 15,000+ organisations · 75+ pre-built connectors · 50+ countries · 30m+ transactions a year Integrated with the world's major business systems #### What is a B2B integration network? B2B integration is the automated exchange of EDI and eInvoice electronic documents, orders, invoices, despatch notices, between the systems of two companies, with no manual handling. A B2B integration network takes that one step further. Instead of building a separate link to every partner, you connect once to a shared network and reach every organisation already on it. Transalis runs that network as a managed service: we plug into your ERP, accounting or ecommerce system through a connector that already exists, and your documents flow to any partner on the network, translated, routed and monitored for you. Connect once. Reach anyone. The partners are already here. Transalis is a managed outcomes provider for B2B integration, EDI and eInvoicing. Where it breaks #### Why integration usually hurts Most businesses connect the hard way, one link at a time, and then they own it forever. Three patterns show up again and again. ##### The spaghetti web. A separate connection to every partner and every system. Five vendors, five invoices, five things to break. ##### The build-and-maintain tax. Every integration you build yourself is something you then keep alive, re-tested and re-worked each time a partner changes a format. ##### The empty platform. You buy a tool that can connect to anything, then find the partners still aren't on it. You're still the one doing the connecting. There's a better place to start: a network that's already built, and already full. The managed model #### One connection. Every system. Fully managed. Transalis runs on a managed-outcomes model. We handle the connection, the translation and the monitoring, so you get the result without running any software. At the centre is the Transalis Trading Network: 15,000+ organisations reachable through a single point of access. ##### Plug in Transalis OpenEDI™ plugs into your system through a pre-built connector. ##### Translate Your documents are translated into whatever format each partner needs. ##### Route They route across the network to any of 15,000+ organisations, with no per-partner setup. ##### Monitor Transalis DataTrack™ shows every message in real time, and the managed team resolves issues before they reach you. Every organisation that joins makes the network reach further. That is the point of infrastructure: it gets more valuable the more it carries. Inside the platform #### Every system, one live view Once your systems are connected, every order, response, despatch note and invoice flows through one place. Transalis DataTrack™ tracks each document end to end, with sender, receiver, message type and live status on one screen. All Services Operational 08/31/2026 – 09/07/2026 ≥ 10,000 documents tracked this week #### If you run it, we probably already connect to it The Transalis Integrations Network comes with 75+ pre-built connectors into the systems businesses actually use, across 50+ countries. ##### ERP SAP · Oracle NetSuite · Microsoft Dynamics · Infor · SYSPRO · Unit4 ##### Accounting Sage · Xero · QuickBooks ##### eCommerce Shopify · Magento · WooCommerce · PrestaShop ##### Marketplaces Amazon · eBay · OnBuy · Wayfair ##### Procurement Coupa · Ariba · Jaggaer · Proactis Don't see yours? #### A network you join, not a platform you build There's a simpler way to think about the choice. A build-it-yourself integration platform hands you the tools and leaves you to wire every connection, and even then, the partners still aren't on it. The Transalis Integrations Network hands you the finished thing: the connectors are already built, 15,000+ partners are already connected, and a managed team runs it. You get the outcome, not a project. No EDI bolt-ons, no separate EDI modules to understand or buy. You just join the integration network. Unlike a platform you build and maintain, Transalis delivers the network already connected. ##### Already connected. 15,000+ organisations, reachable through one integration point. A new partner needs no new connection, contract or cost. ##### Pre-built, not built. 75+ connectors are ready today. If you run it, we most likely already speak to it. ##### Managed, not maintained. Run everything. #### Switch your legacy EDI provider for a modern EDI & eInvoicing service - TrueCommerce - SPS Commerce - Data Interchange - Celtrino - Basware - EDICOM - OpenText - Cleo - Orderful - Comarch #### The numbers that’ll make you switch Zero per-transaction charges on fixed-cost EDI packages 30m+ Transactions processed every year 7bn+ Invoice value processed every year 15,000+ Connected organisations on the network 50+ Countries we can reach #### Why do businesses leave legacy EDI providers? Businesses rarely change EDI providers because they want different technology. They switch because the EDI service they have is no longer delivering what the business needs. - Rising EDI and VAN charges - Per-transaction or volume-based costs that grow with the business - Slow technical support, or service that has quietly declined - Ageing or inflexible EDI technology - Difficulty connecting new customers and suppliers - Expensive mapping and configuration changes - Complex trading-partner onboarding - Limited ERP, accounting or warehouse integration - No real visibility of what happened to a transaction - Several EDI systems or providers running side by side - Growing international requirements - New eInvoicing and tax-compliance obligations - Limited scalability as volumes rise - Too much internal IT administration - A provider that is no longer keeping pace with the business If several of those sound familiar, you are already working around the problem every week. A migration is a one-off piece of work by comparison, and Transalis does most of it for you. Keep your systems #### You do not have to change your ERP to change EDI providers Transalis integrates with the business systems you already run, and translates your internal data into the formats each trading partner requires. #### Is it difficult to change EDI providers? No. It should not be. The biggest worry is rarely finding a better service. It is the risk of the move itself. EDI sits in the middle of critical processes: purchase orders, order responses, despatch advice, invoices and credit notes flow continuously between your systems and those of your customers, suppliers and logistics partners. Interrupting them is not an option. That is why Transalis runs a switch as a managed migration programme, not a software installation. We assess your existing EDI environment, recreate the connections, mappings and integrations, test them, and manage the transition onto the Transalis Trading Network. Change the EDI provider, not the way your business trades. The migration programme #### How do you switch EDI providers? Transalis uses a structured, eight-step migration designed to lower risk and keep the demands on your own team small. - 1Discover your existing EDI environmentWe start with what you already have, so nothing is missed at cutover.Trading partners and connectionsMessage types and document volumesEDI standards, formats and existing mappingsERP, accounting, warehouse and logistics integrationsCommunication protocols and business rulesValidation requirements and current EDI costs - 2Design your Transalis solutionWe then choose the right architecture for the business you are now, from browser-based Web EDI, through Integrated EDI, to an Enterprise environment. The aim is not to reproduce the legacy setup. It is to find where EDI can be simpler, more automated and more cost-effective. - 3Connect your business systemsWhere integration is needed, EDI connects directly to your ERP, accounting or warehouse applications, including SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage and many others. Orders, invoices, despatch notices and inventory data then flow without rekeying. - 4Recreate and validate your mappingsExisting mappings and business rules are reviewed and rebuilt inside the Transalis environment. Transalis supports every widely used standard, including EDIFACT, EANCOM, TRADACOMS, ANSI X12, XML, JSON, UBL and Peppol. - 5Migrate your trading partnersTrading-partner migration runs as a controlled programme. Transalis manages onboarding, mapping, testing and go-live, instead of leaving your team to coordinate hundreds of connections. Because the network already connects 15,000+ organisations, many of your partners are reachable already. - 6Test before you switchCritical document flows and integrations are tested before any production traffic moves: connectivity, message formats, mapping, validation, routing, ERP integration, business rules and partner requirements. Problems surface before they can affect live trading. - 7Controlled cutoverTraffic then moves across on a planned migration. Where it lowers risk, the move is phased by trading partner, connection or business process, rather than a single high-risk switch-over. - 8Monitor and optimiseMigration is not the end of the work. Transalis DataTrack gives real-time visibility of EDI messages, so your team sees exceptions early, and we keep looking for processes to automate and connections to consolidate. #### Why switch your EDI to Transalis? ##### One connection. 15,000+ organisations. Instead of building and maintaining separate EDI relationships, one connection gives you the Transalis Trading Network: 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries. For businesses with large customer or supplier communities, that alone removes most of the work. ##### Predictable EDI costs EDI costs should not rise simply because the business is doing well. Transalis packages are fixed-cost with no per-transaction charges, which removes the success penalty built into volume-based EDI pricing. ##### Fully managed EDI You should not need an in-house team of EDI specialists. Transalis manages partner connectivity, translation, mapping, onboarding, compliance, monitoring, exception management and support. Your business consumes the outcome instead of running the infrastructure. #### Your trading partners are probably already on the network The Transalis Trading Network connects 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries. Twelve of them are below. When a partner is already connected, migrating that relationship is far quicker than building it from scratch. Choose the right model #### Which EDI solution should you switch to? Switching is also the moment to choose an EDI model that suits where the business is going, not where it was when the last contract was signed. ##### Web EDI Best for businesses that need EDI without ERP integration or IT overhead. Work through a secure browser service to receive orders, create invoices, manage despatch information and exchange documents with trading partners. No EDI software is installed, so customer EDI requirements can be met without building internal infrastructure. ##### Integrated EDI Best for businesses that want transactions to flow through their own systems. Integrated EDI connects the Transalis Trading Network directly to ERP, accounting, warehouse and other applications. Orders arrive in your systems automatically, and invoices and despatch advice go out without rekeying. ##### Enterprise EDI Best for complex, high-volume or international trading networks. Scalable connectivity for large trading communities, multiple systems, several countries and high transaction volumes, with the central monitoring, automation and reporting needed to run EDI at that scale. #### Switching is a chance to consolidate Established businesses accumulate EDI over years: several providers, a VAN or two, point-to-point connections, legacy integrations, different message formats, and a separate eInvoicing service. Changing provider is the moment to rationalise all of it. One network. One integration point. One managed service. EDI and eInvoicing #### Switch once, and be ready for eInvoicing EDI and eInvoicing are related, but they are not the same thing. EDI automates the exchange of purchase orders, despatch advice, invoices and acknowledgements. eInvoicing adds structured invoices, tax compliance and government-mandated networks. Transalis supports both. As an authorised Peppol Access Point, Transalis combines EDI connectivity with eInvoicing and international compliance on one platform, so you do not need one provider for EDI and another for eInvoicing. #### How much could switching EDI providers save? The true cost of EDI is almost always larger than the figure on the original contract. Compare total cost of ownership, not the annual licence. - Subscription fees - Transaction charges - VAN charges - Data-volume charges - Trading-partner connection charges - Mapping fees - Change-request fees - Support charges - Integration costs - Internal IT resource - Manual exception handling - Day-to-day EDI administration - The cost of failed or incorrect transactions - Charge backs ##### Ask for an EDI Cost & Migration Assessment We compare your existing EDI environment with a Transalis alternative, and show you where connections can be consolidated, processes automated and cost taken out. #### What should you ask a new EDI provider? These questions separate buying another EDI platform from choosing a partner who can still support the business in five years. - Can you connect to all of my existing trading partners? - Who manages trading-partner migration, you or us? - Can you integrate with our ERP, accounting and warehouse systems? - How will the migration be tested? - Can trading partners be migrated gradually? - How are EDI transactions monitored? - How are exceptions identified and resolved? - What happens as our transaction volumes increase? - Are there per-transaction, VAN or data-volume charges? - Can the platform support international expansion? - Can you also support eInvoicing and Peppol? - What happens when we need to add a new trading partner? - Can the platform scale without another major migration? - Who manages and supports the service after go-live? #### Businesses that switched to Transalis How these businesses moved their EDI to Transalis without disrupting trade. - Health & BeautyMay 2024Space NK switch to Transalis EDI: Cutting costs and boosting efficiencyHow leading health and beauty brand, Space NK, realised an immediate £60,000 contribution to profit through a new EDI approach.Read the story - Food & BeverageDecember 2024Case Study: EDI transformation for TRIP drinksTRIP drinks came to Transalis needing EDI transformation in their supply chain to support a long-term growth strategy.Read the story - Health & BeautyDecember 2019EDI Case Study: AS Watson GroupFind out how Transalis eDI™ integration solutions improved business performance for AS Watson group in this EDI case study.Read the story #### Frequently asked questions about switching EDI providers Can I change EDI providers without changing my ERP system? Yes. Changing EDI providers does not normally require replacing your ERP. Transalis integrates EDI with existing ERP, accounting, warehouse and business applications, and translates your internal data into the formats your trading partners require. Will my customers and suppliers need to change their systems? No. The point of a managed migration is to keep changes away from your trading partners. Transalis handles connectivity, routing, mapping and format translation, so existing document exchanges continue through the new environment. Can Transalis migrate us from a legacy EDI VAN? Yes. Organisations on traditional VAN-based EDI can move to the Transalis Trading Network. Existing connections, message formats, trading partners and integrations are all assessed as part of the migration. Can we migrate trading partners gradually? Yes. For larger EDI estates a phased migration lowers operational risk. Trading partners or document flows move to an agreed plan rather than in a single cutover. What EDI standards does Transalis support? Transalis supports the major EDI and structured-data formats, including EDIFACT, EANCOM, TRADACOMS, ANSI X12, XML, JSON and UBL, so you can trade with partners using different standards. Can Transalis integrate EDI with our ERP? Yes. Integrated EDI connects the Transalis Trading Network to ERP, accounting, warehouse and other business applications, so EDI documents flow automatically between your systems and your trading partners. Can Transalis support both EDI and eInvoicing? Yes. Transalis provides managed EDI and eInvoicing. As an authorised Peppol Access Point, Transalis also supports Peppol connectivity and international eInvoicing requirements. How can I reduce my EDI costs? Start by totalling the real cost of your current environment: subscription, transaction, VAN, mapping, integration and support charges, plus internal administration. Transalis offers fixed-cost EDI packages with no per-transaction charges. What happens when we add another trading partner? Transalis is built on a connect-once model. Once your business is on the Transalis Trading Network, further trading partners are reached through the same integration, rather than a new EDI build for every relationship. Is Transalis suitable for large enterprise EDI migrations? Yes. Transalis supports enterprise EDI environments with high transaction volumes, large trading communities, multiple business systems and international operations. How do I start switching EDI providers? Start with an assessment of what you have: trading partners, document types, formats, integrations, volumes, service problems and current costs. Transalis then builds a migration plan showing how that operation moves to the Transalis Trading Network. Ready when you are #### Ready for a better EDI provider? If your current EDI service is expensive, inflexible, or simply no longer delivering, staying with it is not your only option. We review your environment, understand your trading network and integrations, and show you how the move to Transalis works while your business keeps trading. 15,000+ connected organisations · 50+ countries · 98% of the UK’s electronically trading retail market · Fully managed EDI ## Supply Chain EDI Enablement URL: https://www.transalis.com/supply-chain-enablement > Help trading partners of every size connect, digitise and trade, for sustainable, scalable growth. The dates, who is in scope, and six steps to prepare now. eInvoicing mandate · United Kingdom ### The UK eInvoicing mandate: what changes, and when The government has announced that from April 2029, every VAT invoice between UK businesses, and between businesses and the public sector, will need to be a structured electronic invoice. The law is not in place yet. The government has named Peppol as the network the UK will use, and it publishes its implementation roadmap at the Budget on 28 October 2026. Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point, so one connection gets you ready. #### When does eInvoicing become mandatory in the UK? From April 2029, the date the government has announced. The law is not in place yet: the roadmap arrives on 28 October 2026, and businesses then have until 2029 to get ready. - 26 November 2025AnnouncedConfirmedAt Budget 2025 the government announces mandatory eInvoicing for all VAT invoices from April 2029. It says there will be no real-time reporting to HMRC alongside it. - June 2026AnnouncedConfirmedThe government names Peppol as the core network for eInvoicing in the UK. - 28 October 2026NextBudget 2026. The government publishes its implementation roadmap, which is expected to set out the technical standards, whether the rollout is phased and how the law will be made. - 2027 to 2028PrepareThe window to get ready: connect to Peppol through an Access Point, tidy supplier and customer data, and test invoices with your main trading partners. - April 2029Planned startThe announced start date. Every VAT invoice for business and public sector sales will need to be a structured eInvoice, and a PDF sent by email will no longer meet the requirement. Mandate detail last checked against GOV.UK: 5 October 2026. Who it applies to #### Is eInvoicing mandatory for B2B in the UK? Yes. Under the government's announced plans, from April 2029 every VAT invoice for business and public sector sales will need to be a structured eInvoice. Sales to consumers are not included. ##### All VAT invoices are in scope The mandate covers every VAT invoice issued for business to business (B2B) and business to government (B2G) transactions where VAT is due. Not in scope ##### Sales to consumers are not Invoices to private individuals (B2C) are outside the mandate. If you sell to both businesses and consumers, only the business and public sector side changes. ##### A PDF is not an eInvoice The government defines an eInvoice as one that is issued, sent and received in a structured format that allows automatic processing. A PDF, a scan or a paper invoice does not meet that definition. ##### No real-time reporting in 2029 The government has said it will not introduce real-time reporting to HMRC alongside the mandate. Invoices move between businesses, not through a central HMRC hub. How it works #### How will UK eInvoicing work, and what is Peppol? Invoices will travel over Peppol, the network the government has named for the UK. Each business connects once, through a Peppol Access Point, and can then reach every other business on the network. How a Peppol invoice travels: the four corners - 1Your systemYour ERP or accounting software creates the invoice - 2Your Access PointChecks it and sends it over Peppol - 3Their Access PointReceives it for your customer - 4Their systemThe invoice arrives ready to process - Peppol is the UK's networkThe government has named Peppol as the core interoperability network for UK eInvoicing. Peppol is already used across most of the EU, Australia, Japan and Singapore, and NHS Supply Chain already requires its suppliers to use it. - A decentralised modelBusinesses exchange eInvoices through their service providers, rather than sending every invoice to a government platform. On Peppol, those service providers are called Access Points. - One connection reaches everyone on the networkOnce you are connected through an Access Point, you can send to and receive from any other Peppol participant, in the UK or abroad, without a separate link to each one. - The exact standards come with the roadmapThe technical detail is expected at Budget 2026. Peppol invoices today use the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 format, which is based on the European standard EN 16931. #### What should UK businesses do to prepare for eInvoicing? Six steps, and none of them needs to wait for the roadmap. The businesses that start now have time to test before 2029 rather than rush. - Count what you send and receiveList how many VAT invoices you issue and receive each month, in which formats, and through which systems. - Check your systemsFind out whether your ERP or accounting software can produce and read structured invoices, or will need a connection that does it for them. - Choose a Peppol Access PointPick the provider that will connect you to Peppol, give you a Peppol ID and check each invoice before it is sent. - Tidy your trading partner dataMake sure VAT numbers, legal names and Peppol IDs for your customers and suppliers are complete and accurate. - Test with your main partnersSend and receive test invoices with your largest customers and suppliers well before 2029, so problems are fixed while there is time. - Watch the 28 October roadmapThe roadmap is expected to confirm the standards and any phasing. Plan your timeline around it. How we help #### What eInvoicing software supports the UK mandate? You need a Peppol Access Point and a way to turn your invoices into structured data. Transalis provides both as one managed connection, alongside the ERP you already use. 50+ invoice value processed annually ##### A network that is already there The Transalis Trading Network connects 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries and processes 7bn+ in invoice value a year, so many of your trading partners may already be on it. ##### Certified Peppol Access Point Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point using AS4, and has held a place on the Crown Commercial Service Peppol Access Point framework for the UK public sector. ##### Already live where mandates have started Transalis connects businesses for Belgium's mandate, live since January 2026, and is on the French tax authority's register of approved eInvoicing platforms for France's. ##### Your ERP stays as it is Transalis connects to your existing ERP or accounting system, handles the format and the Peppol delivery, and shows every invoice's status in eInvoiceTrack. #### UK eInvoicing mandate: common questions From April 2029. The government announced at Budget 2025 that all VAT invoices will need to be issued as eInvoices from that date. It publishes the implementation roadmap at Budget 2026 on 28 October 2026. Is the April 2029 eInvoicing date law yet? Not yet. April 2029 is the date the government announced at Budget 2025, and the law to make it a requirement has not been passed. The implementation roadmap, due at Budget 2026 on 28 October 2026, is expected to set out the detail. Businesses are still advised to prepare now, because connecting to Peppol and cleaning up supplier data takes time. Yes, from April 2029 under the government's announced plans. The mandate will cover all VAT invoices for business to business (B2B) and business to government (B2G) transactions where VAT is due. Invoices to consumers (B2C) are not included. Will the UK use Peppol for eInvoicing? Yes. The government has named Peppol as the core interoperability network for eInvoicing in the UK. Businesses will connect through a Peppol Access Point, a certified provider that sends and receives invoices on their behalf. Is a PDF invoice an eInvoice? No. The government defines an eInvoice as an invoice issued, sent and received in a structured format that allows automatic processing. A PDF attached to an email does not meet that definition, so it will not satisfy the mandate. Will HMRC require real-time reporting? Not in 2029. The government has said it will not introduce real-time reporting to HMRC alongside the eInvoicing mandate, and will look at it separately once eInvoicing is established. Does the mandate apply to small businesses? The mandate covers all VAT invoices, so VAT-registered businesses of every size are affected. Whether the rollout is phased by business size is expected to be set out in the roadmap on 28 October 2026. What eInvoicing software do I need for the UK mandate? You need a way to create and receive structured invoices and a connection to Peppol through an Access Point. Many businesses keep their ERP or accounting system and add a managed Peppol connection, such as Transalis, which handles the format, delivery and status tracking. #### Sources - GOV.UKPromoting electronic invoicing across UK businesses and the public sector, consultation response (updated 26 November 2025) (opens in a new tab)The government's response to its eInvoicing consultation. What government suppliers should do now, before the planned 2029 mandate. eInvoicing · UK public sector and NHS ### eInvoicing for UK government suppliers: what to do now UK public bodies must already accept electronic invoices that meet the European standard EN 16931, and pay valid, undisputed invoices within 30 days. NHS Supply Chain goes further: its suppliers exchange orders, despatch advice and invoices over Peppol. The government has also announced that from April 2029, every VAT invoice to the public sector will need to be a structured eInvoice. Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point, so one connection covers all three. What the law asks #### What are the eInvoicing requirements for UK government suppliers? Public bodies must accept eInvoices and pay undisputed invoices within 30 days. Suppliers may send eInvoices today, and the government plans to require them from April 2029. Public bodies · today ##### Public bodies must accept eInvoices Section 67 of the Procurement Act 2023 writes a term into every public contract: the contracting authority must accept and process for payment any electronic invoice in the required form that is not disputed. The required form is the European standard EN 16931. Suppliers · until 2029 ##### Suppliers have the right to send them The law gives suppliers the right to submit an electronic invoice. It does not oblige them to. The planned 2029 mandate would change that. Individual buyers can still require it in their contracts, as NHS Supply Chain does. ##### Paid within 30 days Under section 68, a public body must pay a valid, undisputed invoice within 30 days of receiving it. If it thinks an invoice is invalid or disputes it, it must say so without undue delay. ##### The Act kept the rule The 2019 eInvoicing regulations were revoked when the Procurement Act 2023 came in, but the guidance is plain: the Act does not change the fundamental requirement relating to electronic invoicing. #### Does the NHS require Peppol? NHS Supply Chain does. Its suppliers exchange purchase orders, despatch advice and invoices over Peppol, each connected through a Peppol Access Point. How documents travel between a supplier and NHS Supply Chain - Purchase orders - Despatch advice - Invoices - 1Your systemYour ERP or order system holds the order, the despatch and the invoice - 2Your Access PointTurns them into Peppol documents and sends them - 3NHS Supply Chain's Access PointReceives them on the NHS side - 4NHS Supply ChainOrders, despatch advice and invoices arrive ready to process - Every NHS Supply Chain supplier uses PeppolAll suppliers to NHS Supply Chain use Peppol to exchange business documents with it: purchase orders, despatch advice and invoices. - Emailed EDI orders have stoppedFrom 1 October 2025, NHS Supply Chain no longer accepts EDI orders by email. Peppol through a trading partner is one of the routes that replaces it. - England has its own Peppol AuthorityThe Peppol Authority for England is run day to day by Supply Chain Coordination Ltd, the company behind NHS Supply Chain. It sets the local rules Access Points follow. - Other NHS bodies set their own termsTrusts and other NHS organisations choose how they want to be invoiced. Check each customer's requirement, then use one Peppol connection to meet them all. #### What changes for public sector suppliers, and when? The duty on public bodies is already in force. A duty on suppliers is announced for April 2029 but is not yet law, and the roadmap for it is published on 28 October 2026. - 18 April 2020LawIn forceThe last public bodies must be able to receive eInvoices in the EN 16931 standard. Central government had to from 2019; local and other sub-central bodies by this date. - 24 February 2025LawIn forceThe Procurement Act 2023 comes into force. Section 67 carries the duty to accept eInvoices into every public contract, and section 68 sets payment within 30 days. - 1 October 2025NHSIn forceNHS Supply Chain stops accepting EDI orders sent by email. - 28 October 2026NextBudget 2026. The government publishes its implementation roadmap for the eInvoicing mandate, which covers invoices to the public sector. - April 2029MandateThe announced start date. Every VAT invoice for business and public sector sales will need to be a structured eInvoice, so sending one becomes a requirement for suppliers, not a right. Checked against legislation.gov.uk, GOV.UK and NHS Supply Chain: 6 October 2026. #### What should government suppliers do now? Six steps, and none of them needs to wait for 2029. If you supply NHS Supply Chain, the first four may already be part of your contract. - List your public sector customersNote how each one wants invoices today: a portal, email, or Peppol. NHS Supply Chain and many NHS bodies already expect Peppol. - Check your invoices meet EN 16931A structured invoice meets the standard. A PDF does not. Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 is built on EN 16931, so a Peppol invoice meets it. - Get a Peppol ID through an Access PointYour Access Point registers you on Peppol, so public bodies and NHS Supply Chain can find you and send you orders. - Connect your system onceLink your ERP or order system to your Access Point, or start on a web portal if your volumes are small. Either way, one connection reaches every buyer on Peppol. - Move orders as well as invoicesNHS Supply Chain exchanges orders and despatch advice over Peppol too. Receiving orders this way removes the rekeying before you ever invoice. - Hold buyers to 30 daysA valid, undisputed invoice must be paid within 30 days. Structured invoices arrive complete and can be tracked, which leaves fewer reasons to dispute them. How we help #### What eInvoicing software do government suppliers need? Transalis handles the format and the Peppol delivery, and shows every invoice's status in eInvoiceTrack. #### Government supplier eInvoicing: common questions Today, public bodies must accept electronic invoices in the EN 16931 standard and pay valid, undisputed invoices within 30 days, under sections 67 and 68 of the Procurement Act 2023. Suppliers have the right to send eInvoices but are not yet obliged to. The government has announced that from April 2029, every VAT invoice to the public sector will need to be a structured eInvoice. That date is not yet law. Do UK public bodies have to accept eInvoices? Yes. Section 67 of the Procurement Act 2023 makes every contracting authority accept and process for payment any undisputed electronic invoice in the required form. The required form is the European standard EN 16931 with one of its approved formats. Do suppliers have to send eInvoices to the public sector? Not by law today. Suppliers always have the right to send an electronic invoice, and individual buyers such as NHS Supply Chain can require it in their contracts. The government has announced a UK eInvoicing mandate from April 2029 that would make structured eInvoices compulsory for all VAT invoices, including those to the public sector. The law for it is not yet in place. NHS Supply Chain does. All of its suppliers use Peppol to exchange purchase orders, despatch advice and invoices with it. Other NHS organisations set their own invoicing terms, so check each customer's requirement. Is a Peppol invoice compliant with EN 16931? Yes. Peppol invoices use the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 format, which is based on the European standard EN 16931. Sending through a Peppol Access Point meets the standard public bodies must accept. How quickly must a public body pay an invoice? Within 30 days of receiving it, under section 68 of the Procurement Act 2023, unless it considers the invoice invalid or disputes it, in which case it must tell you without undue delay. Concession contracts, private utilities and contracts awarded by schools are excluded. Does the 2029 eInvoicing mandate cover public sector invoices? Yes, under the plans announced at Budget 2025. The government said all VAT invoices will need to be issued as eInvoices from April 2029, for both business to business (B2B) and business to government (B2G) sales. It has named Peppol as the core network. The law and the detailed rules are still to come, starting with the roadmap at Budget 2026 on 28 October 2026. #### Sources - legislation.gov.ukProcurement Act 2023, section 67, electronic invoicing (opens in a new tab)The law that makes every public body accept and process undisputed electronic invoices in the EN 16931 standard. - legislation.gov.ukProcurement Act 2023, section 68, implied payment terms (opens in a new tab)The law that sets payment of valid, undisputed invoices within 30 days, and the contracts it does not cover. - GOV.UKProcurement Act 2023 guidance, electronic invoicing and payment (updated 20 July 2026) (opens in a new tab)The government's guidance on both sections. Guide · Peppol eInvoicing ### How to send an invoice through Peppol To send an invoice through Peppol, you need three things: a Peppol Access Point, a Peppol ID for your business, and an invoice in the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 format. Your Access Point checks the invoice, finds your customer's Access Point on the network and delivers it. Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point, so it handles every step after your ERP. Before you start #### What do you need to send a Peppol invoice? Three things. Once your Access Point is in place, it can take care of the other two. - Access PointA Peppol Access PointA certified service provider that sends and receives invoices on your behalf. Businesses do not connect to Peppol directly; their Access Point does. - Peppol IDA Peppol IDYour address on the network: an identifier scheme plus your number, such as your Global Location Number or your UK VAT number. Your Access Point registers it. - BIS Billing 3.0An invoice in the Peppol formatPeppol BIS Billing 3.0, a structured format built on the European standard EN 16931. Your Access Point can create it from the data your ERP already holds. Step by step #### How do you send an invoice through Peppol? Six steps, from choosing a provider to seeing your invoice accepted. The first three you do once; after that, every invoice is steps four to six. - Choose a Peppol Access PointPick a certified provider to send and receive for you. It connects to the other Access Points over AS4, the transport every Peppol Access Point must support. - Get your Peppol ID registeredYour Access Point publishes your Peppol ID and the documents you can receive in its Service Metadata Publisher, so other businesses can find you. - Find your customer's Peppol IDAsk your customer, or search the Peppol Directory by name, country or ID. Listing there is optional, so a business missing from the Directory may still be on Peppol. - Create the invoiceProduce a Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 invoice or credit note, with your Peppol ID, your customer's Peppol ID and their buyer reference or purchase order number. - Your Access Point checks and sends itThe sending Access Point must validate the invoice before it leaves. It then looks up your customer's Access Point and delivers the invoice to it. - Track what happens nextThe receiving Access Point confirms delivery or rejection. Your customer can also send an Invoice Response saying it is under query, accepted, rejected or paid. How it travels #### How does a Peppol invoice reach your customer? Through four corners: your system, your Access Point, your customer's Access Point and their system. A lookup on the network tells your Access Point where to deliver. How a Peppol invoice travels: the four corners - 1Your systemYour ERP or accounting software holds the invoice data - 2Your Access PointValidates the invoice and sends it over AS4 - 3Their Access PointReceives it and confirms delivery - 4Their systemThe invoice arrives ready to process - The SML says where to lookThe Service Metadata Locator is a single central service run by OpenPeppol. It tells your Access Point which Service Metadata Publisher holds your customer's details. - The SMP says what they acceptEach Service Metadata Publisher lists the Access Point a business uses and the document types it can receive, such as invoices and credit notes. - AS4 carries the invoiceAS4 is the transport between the two Access Points, and has been mandatory for every Peppol Access Point since 1 February 2020. - Nothing goes to a central hubThe invoice travels straight from your Access Point to your customer's. The lookup only finds the address; it never sees the invoice. #### What is a Peppol ID, and how do you get one? A Peppol ID is your address on the network: an identifier scheme plus your number. Your Access Point registers it, and you can look up other businesses in the Peppol Directory. Anatomy of a Peppol ID The example the Peppol identifier policy itself uses: scheme 0088, a Global Location Number, followed by the number. Schemes UK businesses use - 0088Global Location Number (GLN)Common in retail and the NHS supply chain. Must be a valid GS1 number. - 9932United Kingdom VAT numberThe scheme for a UK VAT registration. - 0060D-U-N-S numberA company identifier issued by Dun & Bradstreet. - Your Access Point registers youYou do not register with Peppol yourself. Your Access Point adds your Peppol ID to its Service Metadata Publisher and to the network's address lookup. - The Peppol Directory is a search, not a registerThe Peppol Directory lets anyone search businesses by name, country, ID or document type. Listing is optional, so not every business on Peppol appears in it. #### What format does a Peppol invoice use? Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, built on the European standard EN 16931. It covers invoices and credit notes, and every Access Point checks invoices against it before they are sent. Peppol BIS Billing Current · May 2026 release - Built on EN 16931Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 narrows the European standard EN 16931 into one shared way of writing an invoice, so every Access Point reads it the same way. - Invoices and credit notesBIS Billing 3.0 covers both. Self-billed invoices and credit notes have their own specification, Peppol BIS Self-Billing 3.0. - UBL, with CII optionalThe invoice is written in UBL 2.1, which every Access Point must handle. The UN/CEFACT Cross Industry Invoice syntax is allowed as an option. - Checked in four layersValidation runs in order: the syntax, the EN 16931 rules, the Peppol rules, then any country rules. The UK has no country-specific rules in BIS Billing 3.0 today. #### Why do Peppol invoices get rejected? Because they break a fatal validation rule, and the invoice is stopped instead of delivered. These six are the ones to check first. - PEPPOL-EN16931-R003No buyer reference or purchase order referenceAsk each customer for the reference they want on invoices. Either one satisfies the rule; you do not always need a PO number. - PEPPOL-EN16931-R010 · R020The buyer's or seller's Peppol ID is missingBoth electronic addresses must be on the invoice, each with its identifier scheme. - BR-CO-13 to BR-CO-17The totals or the VAT do not add upLine totals must sum to the invoice total, and VAT must equal the taxable amount times the rate, rounded to two decimals. - BR-CO-09A VAT number without its country codeVAT identifiers start with the two-letter country prefix, GB for a UK number. - PEPPOL-EN16931-R051More than one currency on the invoiceEvery amount must use the invoice currency. - PEPPOL-COMMON-R040A Global Location Number that fails its check digitUse the GLN exactly as GS1 issued it. #### How do you know a Peppol invoice arrived? The receiving Access Point confirms delivery or rejection. Your customer can then send an Invoice Response with one of these statuses. Peppol Invoice Response statuses - ABAcknowledged - IPIn process - UQUnder query - CAConditionally accepted - APAccepted - RERejected - PDPaid Rejected and Paid are final. Before any of these, the receiving Access Point confirms delivery or reports that the invoice was rejected because it did not meet the rules. How we help #### Who can send Peppol invoices for you? A certified Peppol Access Point. Transalis connects to the ERP you already use, builds each invoice in the Peppol format and checks it before it is sent. 50+ invoice value processed annually ##### A network that is already there The Transalis Trading Network connects 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries and processes 7bn+ in invoice value a year, so many of your customers may already be on it. ##### Certified Peppol Access Point Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point using AS4, and was awarded a place on the Crown Commercial Service Peppol Access Point framework for the UK public sector. ##### Already live where mandates have started Transalis connects businesses for Belgium's mandate, live since January 2026, and is on the French tax authority's register of approved eInvoicing platforms for France's. ##### Your ERP stays as it is Transalis connects to your existing ERP or accounting system, builds the Peppol invoice, checks it before it is sent, and shows every invoice's status in eInvoiceTrack. #### Sending Peppol invoices: common questions How do I send an invoice through Peppol? Connect through a Peppol Access Point, have it register your Peppol ID, find your customer's Peppol ID, and create the invoice in the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 format. Your Access Point validates the invoice, finds your customer's Access Point and delivers it over AS4. What is a Peppol ID? A Peppol ID is a business's address on the Peppol network. It has two parts: an identifier scheme, such as 0088 for a Global Location Number or 9932 for a UK VAT number, and the number itself. Your Access Point registers it for you. How do I find a company's Peppol ID? Ask the company, or search the Peppol Directory by name, country or identifier. Listing in the Directory is optional, so a business that does not appear there may still be able to receive Peppol invoices. Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, which is based on the European standard EN 16931. Invoices are written in UBL 2.1, with the Cross Industry Invoice syntax allowed as an option. The current release is 3.0.21, the May 2026 release. Why was my Peppol invoice rejected? Usually because it broke a fatal validation rule. The most common are a missing buyer reference or order number (PEPPOL-EN16931-R003), a missing Peppol ID for the buyer or seller, totals or VAT that do not add up, and a VAT number without its country code. Can I send credit notes through Peppol? Yes. Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 covers both invoices and credit notes. Self-billed invoices and credit notes use a separate specification, Peppol BIS Self-Billing 3.0. How do I know my Peppol invoice arrived? The receiving Access Point reports whether the invoice was delivered or rejected. Your customer can also send a Peppol Invoice Response with a status such as under query, accepted, rejected or paid. Technical detail last checked against docs.peppol.eu and peppol.org: 6 October 2026. #### Sources - OpenPeppolthe Peppol interoperability framework (opens in a new tab)How the Peppol network is organised: the four corners, the address lookup, and the rule that Access Points validate before sending. - PeppolBIS Billing 3.0 (May 2026 release) (opens in a new tab)The full Peppol invoice format: what every invoice and credit note must contain, the validation rules and the current release. - PeppolPolicy for use of identifiers 4.4.0 (opens in a new tab)The rules for Peppol IDs: how a scheme and a number make up a business's address on the network. - Peppolelectronic address scheme code list (opens in a new tab)The list of identifier schemes a Peppol ID can use, including 0088 for a GLN and 9932 for a UK VAT number. - OpenPeppolthe Peppol Directory (opens in a new tab)How the Peppol Directory works, how to search it, and why some businesses on Peppol do not appear in it. - PeppolAS4 profile specification (opens in a new tab)The technical standard for how Access Points send invoices to each other over AS4. - PeppolBIS Invoice Response (opens in a new tab)The message a buyer sends back to say an invoice is under query, accepted, rejected or paid. - GOV.UKTax update 2026, simplification, modernisation and fairness (23 June 2026) (opens in a new tab)The government's update of 23 June 2026, which names Peppol as the core interoperability network for eInvoicing in the UK. #### Read next #### Ready to send your first Peppol invoice? Electronic Data Interchange Explained URL: https://www.transalis.com/blogs/edi/edi-basics/what-is-edi > Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the automated, computer-to-computer exchange of business documents in a standard format. What it is and how it works. - Electronic Data Interchange automates the exchange of business documents such as orders, despatch advice and invoices between trading partners, replacing paper, email and rekeying. - In the order-to-invoice cycle, EDI moves the purchase order, acknowledgement, despatch advice and invoice electronically, cutting the process from days to minutes. - Businesses can start with a browser-based service, add EDI integrated into their ERP or accounting system, or move to a fully managed service, all on one connection. - An EDI system handles four jobs: translating documents into the right standard, mapping fields, communicating securely and integrating data into systems such as Sage, Xero, SAP or Dynamics. - Major UK retailers commonly require suppliers to trade by EDI, and Transalis connects more than 15,000 trading partners on one network. Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the automated exchange of business documents between companies, computer to computer, in a standard electronic format. It replaces paper, email and rekeying for orders, invoices, despatch notes and the other documents trading partners send each other. #### What EDI means for your business In business, EDI is the language trading partners use to move paperwork without printing, posting or keying it in twice. A retailer's order leaves its system, lands in the supplier's system already formatted, and the supplier's acknowledgement, despatch advice and invoice travel back the same way. For a closer look at the acronym itself, see what EDI stands for. For most companies this is less about the technology and more about what changes in the working day: fewer queries chasing a missing order, fewer manual checks before an invoice can be paid, and a trading partner who can see exactly where a delivery stands without picking up the phone. #### How EDI works: the order-to-invoice cycle Picture a UK grocery supplier trading with a national retailer. Every stage of the order runs through EDI rather than email or a portal login. - Order. The retailer's system raises a purchase order and sends it electronically. It lands in the supplier's order system in the retailer's required format, with no rekeying. - Order acknowledgement. The supplier's system replies automatically, confirming what it can fulfil and when, so both sides work from the same figures. - Despatch advice. Before the goods arrive, the supplier sends a despatch advice, also called an advance shipping notice or ASN, telling the retailer exactly what is on the vehicle, down to quantity and shelf life. - Goods receipt. The retailer's warehouse checks the delivery against the despatch advice, flags any shortfall immediately and books the stock into its system. - Invoice. The supplier's invoice is generated from the same order data and sent electronically, matched automatically against the order and the goods received, so it can be paid without manual checking. Every step happens in minutes rather than days, and each document is generated from data that was already correct, because nobody retyped it along the way. This is the order-to-invoice cycle that sits behind a large share of UK retail trading, and it follows the same basic pattern whether the supplier is a small food producer or a multinational manufacturer, only the volume changes. #### The main EDI documents Most EDI traffic between a UK supplier and a retailer is made up of a small set of recurring documents. For the full set and how each one is structured, see our guide to EDI transactions. - Purchase order: the retailer's request to buy specific products and quantities. - Order acknowledgement: the supplier's confirmation of what it will supply and when. - Despatch advice, or ASN: details of what has been shipped, before it arrives. - Invoice: the supplier's request for payment, matched against the order and delivery. - Credit note, product catalogue and stock report: used to correct, list and report on trading data as needed. The exact combination a business needs depends on the trading partner. A retailer's message specification will list every document it expects, in what format and by what deadline, and a supplier is generally expected to match it before an order is placed. #### EDI standards: EDIFACT, TRADACOMS, ANSI X12 and Peppol A standard is what lets two different computer systems agree on what a piece of data means and where it sits in the document. Several are in everyday use across UK supply chains, and our full guide to EDI standards covers each in more detail. - EDIFACT: the United Nations standard used across Europe and increasingly the default for UK retail. - TRADACOMS: the older UK retail standard, introduced in the 1980s, that some trading partners still use alongside EDIFACT. - ANSI X12: the standard most common in North America, also seen where a trading partner operates internationally. - Peppol: not a traditional EDI standard, but the framework behind e-invoicing, using a four-corner model to route invoices between systems. See our Peppol network accreditation for how this fits alongside EDI. Getting the standard wrong means a document arrives unreadable or is misinterpreted by the receiving system, which is why most businesses leave the mapping and translation between standards to a managed EDI provider rather than building it in house. #### Ways to connect to EDI How a document travels between two systems is a separate question from which standard it uses. Businesses typically choose from four connection methods, often mixing them across a trading network. Common ways to connect to EDI - Connection method | How it works | Best suited to - Value-added network (VAN) | A third-party network stores and forwards documents between trading partners | Established trading relationships already using a VAN, though direct methods are increasingly preferred - AS2 | Documents are sent securely, point to point, over the internet with delivery confirmation | High-volume trading partners who need a fast, secure, direct connection - Direct integration or API | EDI is connected straight into your ERP or accounting system, so documents move without leaving your software | Businesses that want orders and invoices to update their own systems automatically - Web EDI | A browser-based service with no integration required, used to view and action documents online | Businesses just starting out, or with a small number of trading partners A single business often uses more than one method at once, for example web EDI for a handful of small trading partners and a direct integration for its largest retail account, all managed through the same provider and the same underlying connection. #### EDI versus email, PDF and API An emailed PDF still needs a person to open it, read it and key the figures into another system. That is where errors creep in and where a retailer's tight delivery windows get missed. EDI removes that step because the data goes straight from one system into another in a format both already understand. Read more: How a soft drinks maker removed manual rekeying of customer PDF orders. For a business trading with several retailers at once, this difference compounds. A team processing hundreds of emailed orders a week spends that time re-entering data instead of managing stock, pricing or customer relationships, and every retype is another chance for an error to reach the invoice. API and EDI are often confused because both move data automatically between systems. An API call is usually a live request and response between two specific systems, built and maintained by a developer. EDI is a standardised message exchanged between many different trading partners without custom development for each one, which is why entire retail sectors have settled on it as their common way of trading. Many EDI systems now offer an API alongside traditional EDI, so both methods can run on the same connection. #### What is an EDI system? An EDI system is the combination of software and service that turns a document created in one company's system into something another company's system can read, and moves it there securely. It typically does four jobs. - Translation: converting a document from your internal format into the EDI standard your trading partner requires, and back again. - Mapping: matching each field, such as a product code or delivery address, to the right place in the outgoing and incoming document. - Communication: sending and receiving documents securely over the connection method you use, whether that is AS2, a VAN or a direct integration. - Integration: getting the translated data into your ERP or accounting system, such as Sage, Xero, SAP or Dynamics, so it appears as an order or invoice without anyone re-entering it. Locations and trading partners referenced inside these messages are usually identified by a GLN, sometimes called an EDI number, which lets systems route documents to the right place automatically. Buying an EDI system rarely means buying a single piece of software. In practice it means choosing a provider who runs all four of these jobs for you, on a connection that already understands the formats your trading partners use. #### The benefits of EDI The case for EDI comes down to what changes day to day, not just what it costs to run. These are not one-off gains: once a trading partner is connected, the same benefits apply to every order, delivery and invoice that follows, for as long as the relationship lasts. - Fewer errors: data moves once, from system to system, instead of being retyped at every stage. - Faster orders: acknowledgements, despatch advice and invoices are exchanged in minutes rather than days. - Retailer compliance: suppliers meet the message formats and timescales that major retailers require, without building it themselves. - Visibility: every order, delivery and invoice is tracked electronically, so problems are spotted before they reach the customer. - The network effect: once a trading partner is connected, each new document type or new partner is added to the same connection rather than a fresh project. #### Who uses EDI in the UK, and why retailers require it EDI underpins most of the UK's retail and grocery supply chain, along with manufacturing, wholesale and logistics. Retailers such as Argos, AS Watson and Superdrug trade with their suppliers through EDI, and many large retailers make it a condition of doing business at all. Transalis connects more than 15,000 trading partners across UK and European supply chains. Beyond retail and grocery, EDI is just as established in manufacturing, wholesale distribution, automotive and logistics, wherever high volumes of orders and invoices move between trading partners on a regular schedule. For a retailer managing thousands of suppliers, EDI is the only practical way to process that volume of orders, despatch advice and invoices without a large back office team. For a supplier, being able to trade on EDI is often what allows them to win and keep a listing with a major retailer in the first place. #### How to get started with EDI There is no single way to start with EDI, and most businesses grow into it rather than adopting everything at once. - A browser-based service with no integration, for businesses that need to meet a trading partner's requirement quickly. - EDI integrated into your ERP or accounting system, so orders and invoices flow automatically without anyone opening a browser. - A fully managed service across a large trading network, where the provider handles onboarding, standards and every connection. The right starting point depends on how many trading partners you have today and how quickly that number is likely to grow, rather than on the size of your business alone. All three run on the same underlying connection, so a business can start simple and add integration or partners later without starting again. Transalis OpenEDI supports all three, and you can book a meeting to talk through which fits your trading network. #### Frequently asked questions What is EDI in simple terms? EDI lets two companies' computer systems send each other business documents directly, without anyone typing them in. An order leaves the buyer's system and arrives in the supplier's system already formatted and readable, so nobody rekeys it and nothing gets mistyped along the way. What is EDI in the UK? In the UK, EDI is how most of the retail and grocery supply chain trades. Major retailers commonly require suppliers to exchange orders, despatch advice and invoices by EDI before they will place business with them. Transalis is a UK based provider connecting more than 15,000 trading partners. An EDI system is the software and service that turns a document from one company's format into the standard a trading partner needs, sends it securely, and feeds the translated data straight into the receiving system, such as an ERP or accounting platform, without manual entry. What is an EDI example? A typical example is a supermarket sending a purchase order electronically to a supplier, who replies with an order acknowledgement, then sends a despatch advice before the goods arrive, followed by an invoice. Every document is exchanged automatically between the two systems, usually within minutes rather than days. What documents are sent by EDI? The most common are the purchase order, the order acknowledgement, the despatch advice telling the buyer what is arriving and when, and the invoice. Credit notes, product catalogues and stock reports are also routinely exchanged this way between trading partners. Is EDI still used, or has something replaced it? EDI is still the standard for high volume trading between businesses, and nothing has replaced it. It now runs alongside eInvoicing, which governments are making mandatory in a growing number of countries, including the UK, which has announced a mandate from April 2029, so the two will increasingly work side by side. ##### Ready to automate your supply chain? Why a PDF is not one URL: https://www.transalis.com/blogs/einvoicing/einvoicing-basics/what-is-einvoicing > An emailed PDF is not eInvoicing. See how structured invoices travel over Peppol, where mandates stand, and how to book a meeting with Transalis today. - An eInvoice is structured data that moves from the supplier's system to the buyer's system without retyping, and an emailed PDF does not qualify. - Peppol sends eInvoices through certified Access Points, so you connect to one provider and reach everyone else on the network. - Belgium's eInvoicing mandate has been live since 1 January 2026, and France's started on 1 September 2026. - The UK government has announced eInvoicing for VAT invoices from April 2029 and named Peppol as the core network, but the legislation is not in place yet. - A good eInvoicing provider is a certified Peppol Access Point with real reach, ERP connections and visibility of every invoice. What is eInvoicing? An eInvoice is an invoice created, sent and read as structured data, passing straight from the supplier's system to the buyer's system with nobody retyping it. A PDF attached to an email is not an eInvoice, however tidy it looks, because the buyer's software cannot read it without help. As a certified Peppol Access Point, Transalis sends eInvoices over Peppol, the international network built for exactly this job. Watch how it works: in under two minutes, the video below follows one eInvoice from the supplier's ERP, through conversion, validation and the Peppol network, into the buyer's system and on to the tax authority where a country requires it. Most businesses already invoice "electronically" in the loosest sense. Someone raises the invoice in an accounts package, exports a PDF and emails it. The document travels digitally, but the data does not. At the other end, a person reads it and keys the numbers into another system. That retyping is the PDF trap, and it is the thing eInvoicing removes. #### PDF, scan or eInvoice: what is the difference? - Format | What the buyer receives | Can the buyer's system read it without retyping? | Where it goes wrong - Emailed PDF | A picture of an invoice | No. A person reads it and keys it in | Typing errors, lost emails, slow approval - Scanned paper or OCR | A picture, read back by software that guesses the characters | Partly, and it still needs checking | Misread digits and missing lines - Structured eInvoice | The invoice fields (supplier, lines, VAT, totals) as data | It reads the data directly | Both sides must agree a format - Peppol eInvoice | Structured data sent through certified Access Points on a shared network | It reads the data directly, in the same format for every partner on the network | You need a connection to an Access Point Tax authorities say the same thing in plain terms. Belgium's federal eInvoicing portal states that sending a PDF by email will no longer be enough. The French tax administration says an ordinary PDF or an emailed document will not comply with its rules, and the European Commission defines an electronic invoice as one issued, sent and received in a structured format that allows automatic processing. Transalis draws the same line on its eInvoicing page: a PDF or scanned image is not a structured eInvoice. #### How does eInvoicing work? Peppol uses a four-corner model. You and your customer are the outer two corners. Your Access Point and theirs are the inner two. Here is the journey of one invoice. - Your system raises the invoice as data. Your ERP or finance system produces the invoice fields in a structured format, not a picture of them. - Your Access Point checks and sends it. Access Points are Peppol-certified providers that connect to each other so that trading partners can send and receive messages. - The network finds the receiver. Your Access Point looks up where your customer's Access Point is and what it is able to receive. - Their Access Point delivers it. The invoice lands in your customer's system as data, ready to validate and approve with no rekeying. Each sender connects to one provider to reach every receiver. That is why connecting once matters: you are not building a separate link for every customer. #### What is Peppol? Peppol is an international network for exchanging eInvoices and other business documents. It is owned and governed by OpenPeppol, which has authority over the central components of the network, including the central address lookup service (the SML). Certified service providers can run the capability lookup (the SMP) that tells your Access Point what each receiver is able to accept. The easiest way to picture it is a mobile phone network. You connect to one provider and can reach everyone else on the network. Peppol is a framework, not an app you install. Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point, so one connection to us puts you on the network and in touch with the 15,000+ organisations on the Transalis Trading Network. Our Peppol accreditation page has the detail, and how to connect your ERP to Peppol walks through the technical side. #### Is eInvoicing mandatory? It depends on where you and your customers trade. Think of a mandate as a passport: it is the reason to get connected, and the connection then works for every partner on the network. - Belgium: live. Structured eInvoicing has been compulsory between Belgian enterprises liable to VAT since 1 January 2026, sent over Peppol. The tax authority showed tolerance on penalties for the first three months of 2026, and said there would be no general postponement. - France: live from 1 September 2026. Every company, whatever its size, must be able to receive eInvoices from that date. Large and mid-size companies must also issue them from 1 September 2026, while small and micro businesses have until 1 September 2027. Invoices pass through an approved platform, which the French authorities call a plateforme agréée. Our France and Belgium guide covers both. - UK: announced from April 2029. The government announced at Budget 2025 that from April 2029 businesses will be required to issue VAT invoices as eInvoices. On 23 June 2026 it said Peppol will be the core interoperability network for eInvoicing in the UK. The legislation is not in place yet, and the government has said a roadmap will follow at the Budget on 28 October 2026. Our UK eInvoicing mandate page tracks each step. You do not have to wait for 2029. Customers in Belgium and France already work to these rules, and some will ask their suppliers to send invoices that fit. #### What are the benefits of eInvoicing? - Fewer errors. Nobody retypes the invoice, so there is nothing to mistype. - Faster approval. The buyer's system validates the invoice on arrival, so it reaches the person who approves it sooner. - Visibility. You can see where each invoice is. Transalis eInvoiceTrack™ tracks every electronic invoice across your trading network in real time. - One connection, many uses. The same connection that carries invoices can carry purchase orders and other documents, which is why we think of it as a trading passport rather than a one-off compliance link. EDI is how those other documents travel. #### How do you choose an eInvoicing provider? Searching for the best eInvoicing provider for a UK business turns up plenty of general invoicing tools. The test that matters is whether your invoices can reach your customers as structured data. Ask these questions: - Is the provider a certified Peppol Access Point, so you are on the network itself and not on a workaround? - How many trading partners can you already reach? Transalis connects 15,000+ organisations across 50+ countries. - Does it connect to your ERP, or does it expect you to rebuild your process? - Can you see every invoice's status, not just that it was sent? - Is it managed for you, with the standards and formats handled, or do you need an in-house specialist? #### How do you get started? Start with your customers. Find out which ones already ask for eInvoices, or will soon. Then connect your ERP or finance system to an Access Point and test one invoice end to end. Book a meeting with Transalis for a 30-minute, no-obligation call that walks you through EDI and eInvoicing. #### Frequently asked questions Is eInvoicing mandatory in the UK? Not yet. The government has announced that from April 2029 businesses will be required to issue VAT invoices as eInvoices, and has named Peppol as the core network. The legislation is not in place yet, and a roadmap is due at the Budget on 28 October 2026. Your system raises the invoice as structured data and passes it to your Access Point. The Peppol network looks up your customer's Access Point, which delivers the invoice into their system, ready to validate with no rekeying. Each side connects to one provider, so there is no separate link to build for every customer. What is the difference between an eInvoice and a PDF invoice? A PDF is a picture of an invoice that a person has to read and retype. An eInvoice carries the same fields as structured data, so the buyer's system reads it automatically. Belgian and French tax authorities both say an ordinary emailed PDF does not meet their eInvoicing rules. What is Peppol eInvoicing? It is eInvoicing sent over the Peppol network, which is governed by OpenPeppol. Certified Access Points exchange the invoices between trading partners, so each business connects to one provider to reach everyone else. Transalis is a certified Peppol Access Point, so one connection puts you on the network. Who needs to do eInvoicing? Any business that sends or receives invoices can benefit, and some already have to. Belgian enterprises liable to VAT must use structured eInvoices with each other, French companies must be able to receive them from 1 September 2026, and the UK government has announced that businesses will follow from April 2029. Which countries are using Peppol? Peppol is an international network. Belgium sends its mandated eInvoices over it, and the UK government has named it the core interoperability network for eInvoicing. Transalis can reach trading partners in 50+ countries. Ask your provider which of your own customers it can reach today. How do I check whether a company is on Peppol? Your Access Point looks up the receiver's address and capabilities on the network before it sends anything. That lookup tells it where to deliver the invoice and what the receiver is able to accept. Ask the company for its Peppol details, or ask your provider to run the lookup for you. ##### Ready to automate your supply chain? What they are, where they are used, and which one you need. - EDI standards are agreed formats that let different companies' systems exchange documents automatically. - The main standards are EDIFACT, ANSI X12, Tradacoms and ODETTE, each favoured by different regions and industries. - UK retail grew up on Tradacoms and now mostly uses EDIFACT and its retail subset, EANCOM. - The standard sets the document format; a communication protocol such as AS2, AS4, SFTP or API moves it. - A managed provider like Transalis handles the standards for you, across a single connection. The term EDI, or electronic data interchange, is an automated way to exchange business documents such as orders, invoices and shipping notes, without paperwork. Because systems talk directly to each other, they need shared EDI standards to understand the data. Here we explain the main ones. What are EDI standards? EDI standards are agreed rules for the format and content of electronic business documents. They define the order of information, how each value is labelled, and the syntax used, so a document sent by one company is read correctly by another company's system. The most common are EDIFACT, ANSI X12, Tradacoms and ODETTE. In the UK, most retail and grocery EDI runs on EDIFACT, often its retail subset EANCOM, with TRADACOMS still used by some long-standing trading partners, GS1 UK numbers for locations and products, and Peppol for NHS and public sector invoicing. Transalis supports all of these on one connection and translates between them, so a supplier does not need to know which standard each partner uses. #### The main EDI standards The main EDI standards and where they are used - Standard | Full name | Where it is used | Common industries - EDIFACT | UN/EDIFACT (EDI for Administration, Commerce and Transport) | Global, strongest in Europe | Retail, logistics, automotive - ANSI X12 | ASC X12 | United States and North America | Retail, healthcare, logistics - Tradacoms | Trading Data Communications Standard | UK, an early retail standard now largely replaced by EDIFACT | UK grocery and retail - EANCOM | GS1 subset of EDIFACT | Global retail | FMCG, grocery, general retail - ODETTE | Organisation for Data Exchange by Tele-Transmission in Europe | Europe | Automotive The right standard matters because it lets the data sent and received be interpreted correctly by both partners' systems. Many standards are in use, and different industries favour different ones. #### Which EDI standard is used in the UK? UK retail EDI began with Tradacoms, introduced in the 1980s for grocery and general retail. Most UK trading has since moved to EDIFACT and its retail subset, EANCOM, though some partners still exchange Tradacoms messages. Many UK suppliers need to support more than one standard at once, because each retailer they trade with may ask for a different format. That is where a managed provider removes the work. #### How an EDI document is structured EDI standards set out the format and make-up of a document, including the order of information and where each value sits. A document includes elements (such as an item number, cost or buyer location). Groups of elements are segments (for example, a full buyer address). The completed document is a transaction set. For a closer look at the documents themselves, see our guide to EDI transactions. ##### Four principles govern EDI documents - Syntax sets the characters used and the order they appear in. - Codes give shared meanings for details like dates, currencies and country names. - Message design sets the structure of a message type, such as an invoice or order. - Identification values set out how each value in a document is identified. #### EDI standards and communication protocols Once the right standard is in place, documents are sent to the trading partner over a communication protocol such as SFTP, AS2, AS4, SMTP or API. The standard is the language; the protocol is the delivery method. Transalis is one of a handful of UK EDI providers certified to the AS4 standard of Peppol (Pan-European Public Procurement Online), the framework that makes different systems interoperable for orders, despatch advice and invoices. #### Why Transalis Transalis lets you exchange documents in any required format, over any EDI protocol, through a single connection to our managed EDI service, removing almost all internal EDI effort. New connections are handled by a dedicated project manager, and our API lets you send and receive data straight from your existing ERP. Talk to an EDI specialist #### Frequently asked questions What are the main EDI standards? The most widely used EDI standards are EDIFACT (global, strongest in Europe), ANSI X12 (North America), Tradacoms (UK retail) and ODETTE (European automotive). EANCOM, a GS1 subset of EDIFACT, is common in global retail. What is the difference between EDIFACT and ANSI X12? EDIFACT is the international standard, used most in Europe and global trade. ANSI X12 is the North American standard. They structure the same documents differently, so trading across regions often means supporting both. UK retail started on Tradacoms and has largely moved to EDIFACT and its retail subset EANCOM. Some partners still use Tradacoms, so UK suppliers often need to support more than one standard. Do I need to understand EDI standards to use EDI? No. With a managed EDI service, the provider maps and translates between standards for you. How do you connect your ERP to Peppol? You connect an ERP to Peppol through a certified Access Point, using a direct API, middleware, or a managed integration service. The ERP creates the invoice, the data is mapped into the required Peppol format, validated, then sent through the Access Point to the recipient. The right route depends on your invoice volumes, in-house resource and compliance needs. Choosing the right Peppol API is about more than developer documentation. This practical guide helps UK finance, IT and development teams understand how to connect your ERP to Peppol, what to look for in an Access Point, and how to manage invoice data, onboarding, exceptions and future compliance requirements. For a UK finance team, the “best” Peppol API is rarely just the one with the cleanest developer documentation. It is the one that can handle the real-world mess around ERP data quality, supplier onboarding, invoice exceptions and future compliance changes. Below we’ll answer how to connect your ERP to Peppol, compare API integration options, and prepare your finance systems for compliant eInvoicing. Your finance team needs accurate invoice data. Your IT team needs a secure connection. Your suppliers and customers need documents in the right format. And your business needs confidence that the process will keep working as eInvoicing requirements continue to evolve. This practical guide answers the most common questions UK businesses ask when they start looking at Peppol API integration for ERP and finance systems. #### Fast-track your Peppol ERP integration Connect your ERP or finance system to Peppol with a faster, simpler integration route. #### What is PEPPOL API integration for ERP systems? Peppol API integration connects your ERP, accounting or finance system to the Peppol network through a certified Peppol Access Point. Your ERP continues to create, receive and store invoice data. The API acts as the connection between your internal system and the Peppol network, allowing electronic invoices and other business documents to be exchanged securely in a structured format. Instead of sending invoices by email, PDF, post or customer portals, Peppol allows businesses to exchange invoice data directly between systems. This means fewer manual processes, fewer errors and better visibility of document delivery. For UK businesses, Peppol can be especially useful when trading with public sector organisations, international customers or companies that are moving towards structured electronic invoicing. #### How do developers integrate ERP systems with the Peppol network? Developers usually connect an ERP system to Peppol using an API provided by a certified Peppol Access Point or managed eInvoicing provider. The process normally works like this: - The ERP system creates the invoice data. - The invoice data is extracted from the ERP. - The data is mapped into the required Peppol format. - The invoice is validated to check for missing or incorrect fields. - The API sends the invoice to the Peppol Access Point. - The Access Point routes the invoice to the recipient. - Delivery and status messages are returned to the ERP or finance workflow. The key point is that Peppol integration is not just about sending a file. The data must be complete, structured and compliant with Peppol requirements. Developers need to think about authentication, error handling, message status updates, data mapping, testing and how exceptions will be managed by finance users. A good integration should make the process simple for the end user. Finance teams should not need to understand Peppol syntax or technical validation rules. They should be able to create, send, receive and monitor invoices from within their normal process. #### How do developers connect an ERP to the Peppol network? There are three common ways to connect an ERP to Peppol. The first option is a direct API integration. This is usually best for organisations with internal development resources and a clear integration strategy. The ERP connects directly to the provider’s API, giving the business control over how data is sent and received. The second option is middleware or an integration platform. This sits between the ERP and the Peppol Access Point. It can be useful when data needs to be transformed, enriched or routed between multiple systems. The third option is a managed integration service. This is often the most practical route for businesses that want to reduce internal technical effort. A managed provider can support mapping, validation, onboarding, monitoring and ongoing changes. For many organisations, the best approach is not simply the most technical one. It is the one that fits your invoice volumes, ERP setup, compliance needs and available internal resource. #### How to enable electronic invoicing through Peppol for ERP solutions? To enable electronic invoicing through Peppol, you need to connect your ERP or finance system to a Peppol Access Point and make sure invoice data can be exchanged in the correct structured format. The practical checklist is: - Confirm your eInvoicing requirements. - Select a Peppol Access Point or managed provider like Transalis. - Review your ERP invoice data. - Map fields to the Peppol format. - Configure the API or integration method. - Validate invoice data before sending. - Test outbound and inbound invoice flows. - Train finance users on exception handling. - Onboard relevant customers and suppliers. - Monitor performance after go-live. For many businesses, the biggest challenge is not the API itself. It is making sure the surrounding process works properly. That includes master data quality, invoice approval workflows, supplier onboarding, customer requirements and exception management. #### What are the best APIs available for connecting ERP software to Peppol? The best Peppol API is the one that fits your systems, resources and business goals. A developer-led organisation may want detailed documentation, flexible endpoints and full control over the integration. A finance-led organisation may prefer a managed service that reduces technical effort and provides ongoing support. When comparing Peppol APIs, look for: - Clear documentation - Secure authentication - Sandbox testing - Validation tools - Support for outbound and inbound invoices - Webhooks or status callbacks - Support for wider eInvoicing and EDI processes - Support for multiple ERP systems - Scalability for higher document volumes - Monitoring and reporting - Error messages that are easy to understand #### Which companies offer PEPPOL API integration services for ERP platforms? There are a number of providers that offer Peppol API integration and Access Point services. Some focus mainly on giving developers an API to connect to the PEPPOL network. Others provide broader managed services that include ERP integration, data transformation, validation, onboarding and support. When choosing a provider, consider whether you need: - API access only - A certified Peppol Access Point - ERP integration support - Invoice data mapping - Supplier onboarding - Inbound invoice automation - eDI integration - PDF invoice processing - Ongoing monitoring and managed support Transalis is positioned for organisations that want Peppol to work as part of a wider digital document exchange and finance automation strategy. Rather than treating Peppol as a standalone technical connection, Transalis can help connect ERP systems, finance workflows, suppliers and customers into a more joined-up process. #### Getting connected : Faster Than You Think Peppol API integration is a practical way to connect ERP and finance systems to the growing world of electronic invoicing. For developers, the project involves APIs, data mapping, validation, authentication and status handling. For finance teams, it is about reducing manual work, improving invoice accuracy and gaining better visibility. For the wider business, it creates a more scalable way to trade digitally with customers, suppliers and public sector organisations. The most successful Peppol projects are not treated as one-off technical connections. They are planned as part of a wider eInvoicing and automation strategy. With the right partner, UK businesses can connect their ERP to Peppol, and together we can build a stronger foundation for future digital trading. #### Talk to an EDI specialist Tell us a little about your business and we’ll show you how DataTrack brings clarity to your EDI. #### Frequently asked questions What is a Peppol Access Point? A Peppol Access Point is a certified connection point that sends and receives structured invoice data across the Peppol network on your behalf. Your ERP connects to the Access Point through an API, which validates the invoice format and routes it securely to your trading partner's own Access Point. What are the main ways to integrate an ERP with Peppol? There are three common routes: a direct API integration, middleware that sits between the ERP and the Access Point, or a fully managed integration service. Direct integration suits businesses with development resource, while a managed service suits those who want mapping, validation and onboarding handled for them. What should I look for in a Peppol API provider? Look for clear documentation, secure authentication, sandbox testing and support for both outbound and inbound invoices. Also check for webhooks or status callbacks, scalability for higher volumes, and support for wider eInvoicing and EDI processes, since most businesses need more than a single technical connection. When do UK businesses need to be ready for mandatory e-invoicing? The UK e-invoicing mandate is planned to take effect from April 2029, based on a four-corner Peppol model. Businesses connecting their ERP to Peppol now, ahead of the deadline, give themselves time to test data quality, onboard trading partners and resolve exceptions before compliance becomes mandatory. ##### Ready to automate your supply chain? See what each is actually built for, why API-only multiplies complexity, and how hybrid orchestration runs both. By Paul Butler Simpson & Aniello Sabatino · Transalis - EDI is not dead. The Transalis Trading Network alone processes 30m+ transactions a year and reaches 98% of the electronically-trading UK retail market. - EDI and APIs are built for different jobs. EDI moves massive, secure, standardised batches. APIs handle lightweight, real-time exchanges. - Going API-only trades one shared language for hundreds of bespoke endpoints, each yours to maintain and re-code whenever a partner changes something. - The winning pattern is hybrid orchestration: keep the proven EDI foundation, and wrap it in API-driven architecture where real-time speed earns its keep. - Nothing gets ripped out. The foundation gets modernised in how it connects. Should businesses replace EDI with APIs, or use both together? Neither replaces the other. EDI is a secure, standardised way to move large batches of documents like orders and invoices, still the shared language that major retail and logistics hubs run on. APIs suit fast, lightweight, real-time exchanges such as stock checks. The winning approach, hybrid orchestration, keeps the proven EDI foundation in place and wraps it in modern API architecture wherever real-time speed adds value, so nothing working gets ripped out. It makes for a confident conference slide: EDI is legacy, APIs are the future, so rip out the old and wire up the new. It is a good slide and a poor strategy. We have spent two decades watching this prediction get made, and the deadline for EDI’s death keeps moving, because the people calling it tend to underestimate the sheer scale and inertia of global trade. So here is our position, plainly. APIs are not killing EDI. They are making it better. And the businesses that win the next few years won’t be the ones that picked a side; they will be the ones running both. #### Is EDI dead, or still running global trade? EDI is not dead. It is the bedrock the rest of the industry quietly stands on. The largest retail and logistics hubs in the world, the Amazons, Sainsbury’s and Walmarts, have built their operations on EDI over decades, and they are not about to rebuild core infrastructure for tens of thousands of suppliers because a newer protocol is in fashion. The scale tells the story. The Transalis Trading Network alone processes 30m+ transactions a year and reaches 98% of the electronically-trading UK retail market. That is not the footprint of a dying technology; it is the plumbing of modern commerce, and it is carrying more every year, not less. #### EDI vs API: which is better? It is the wrong question. EDI and APIs are different tools for different jobs, and asking which is better is like asking whether a motorway or a motorbike wins: it depends entirely on the load. EDI is heavy-duty, built to move massive, secure, standardised batches of documents, the orders, advance shipping notices and invoices that keep supply chains interoperable. It is the universal language that lets tens of thousands of partners understand each other without bespoke translation. APIs are fast couriers, brilliant for lightweight, real-time exchanges like a live tracking check or an instant stock lookup. The trouble only starts when you treat one as a wholesale replacement for the other. Go API-only and you trade a single shared language for hundreds of bespoke endpoints, each custom-built and each yours to maintain and re-code every time a partner changes something. You don't escape complexity that way; you multiply it. EDI and APIs compared: what each is built for in a supply chain. - EDI | APIs - Built for | Massive, secure, standardised batches of documents | Lightweight, real-time exchanges - Typical use | Orders, advance shipping notices and invoices | A live tracking check or an instant stock lookup - Reach | A universal language tens of thousands of partners already speak | A bespoke endpoint per partner, each custom-built - Maintenance | One shared standard, no bespoke translation | Yours to maintain and re-code whenever a partner changes something #### Can you use EDI and API together? Yes, and that is the whole point. The future is not EDI or APIs; it is hybrid orchestration. You keep the proven EDI foundation that every major hub already speaks, and you wrap it in modern, API-driven cloud architecture wherever real-time speed earns its keep. Nothing gets ripped out; the foundation gets modernised in how it connects. This is exactly how Transalis is built. Transalis OpenEDI™ is the gold-standard foundation, and an orchestration layer, powered by our Spinnaker architecture, absorbs the protocol fragmentation behind the scenes. Your IT team gets clean, centralised infrastructure while the business connects without friction to any modern marketplace or ERP. You get the reliability of EDI and the speed of APIs, without betting the operation on a rebuild. #### What this means for an IT leader The strategic mistake is treating this as a binary. Cling to a brittle, unmanaged legacy and you fall behind on the real-time experiences partners increasingly expect. Rip out working EDI to chase a trend and you take on enormous risk while re-coding endpoints you never needed to touch. The hybrid path sidesteps both. You protect interoperability with every hub that mandates EDI, you add API speed precisely where it matters, and you let someone else own the fragmentation underneath. Being forward-thinking here isn’t about abandoning EDI. It is about refusing to choose, and orchestrating the best of both. #### The honest headline So the headline almost writes itself. EDI isn’t dead, and APIs didn’t win. Orchestration did. The question worth asking isn’t which technology to bet on, but who is going to absorb the complexity of running both so your team doesn’t have to. #### Frequently asked questions Do I have to replace my existing EDI to add API connectivity? No. Hybrid orchestration is the opposite of rip-and-replace. Your proven EDI foundation stays exactly where it is, and the orchestration layer adds API-driven connectivity on top wherever real-time speed matters. You modernise how the foundation connects rather than tearing it out and starting again. Do my trading partners need to support APIs for this to work? No. Each partner keeps trading in whatever they already speak, which for most large hubs is EDI. You connect once to the network and the orchestration layer handles the translation, so adding API speed on your side never forces a change on theirs. Does running both mean more systems for my team to manage? No, fewer. Because EDI and API are orchestrated as a single managed outcome, your team oversees one connection rather than maintaining two separate stacks. Transalis owns the protocol complexity underneath, so hybrid means less to manage, not more. See why trading partner onboarding takes days on a B2B integration network: connect once, reach anyone. By Paul Butler Simpson & Aniello Sabatino, Transalis - Onboarding a new trading partner should take days, not months. A months-long timeline is a symptom of the integration model, not a technical necessity. - The slow model is point-to-point: every partner is a bespoke, custom build, the “spaghetti web” your team ends up maintaining rather than running. - A B2B integration network changes the maths. You connect once and reach every partner already on it. Transalis calls this A2A: Anyone-to-Anyone. - The Transalis Trading Network spans 15,000+ connections and trading partners, processes 30m+ transactions a year, and reaches 98% of the electronically-trading UK retail market. - On a network, onboarding is enablement, not construction: hours or days, not months. Argos, AS Watson and Superdrug scaled to thousands of partners without adding headcount. What is a B2B integration network? A B2B integration network is a single shared connection that links a business to every trading partner already on it, instead of building a separate custom integration for each one. Businesses connect once and can reach everyone already connected, an approach Transalis calls Anyone-to-Anyone (A2A), replacing months of bespoke, point-to-point builds with fast, ongoing enablement as trading relationships grow. Somewhere in your organisation, a new contract is waiting on a connection. The buyer has mandated EDI, the commercial team has signed, and everyone is now circling the same question: how long until we can actually trade? If the honest answer is “a few months,” that timeline isn’t a technical inevitability. It’s a symptom of how the connection is being built. We’ll say plainly what two decades in this market has taught us. Onboarding a trading partner should be measured in days. The reason most businesses still measure it in months has nothing to do with the difficulty of moving an order from one system to another, and everything to do with treating every new partner as a fresh construction project. Read more: Retailer onboarding cut to 24 hours for a toy manufacturer. #### Why does adding one trading partner still take months? Because the prevailing model treats each trading relationship as a bespoke, point-to-point build: a fresh piece of custom integration wired directly between your system and theirs. Every retailer, marketplace and supplier becomes another line in an ever-growing tangle of connections, each with its own formats, rules and failure points. We call it the spaghetti web, and the trouble is that each strand looks manageable on its own. Twenty strands later, your team is no longer running integrations. They’re maintaining them. A partner quietly changes a validation rule, dispatch notes stop registering, and a week disappears into untangling why. The most expensive version of this is the temptation to build it all yourself inside the ERP: to assume that because a modern platform can technically hold an EDI connection, it should. It can, right up until the partner on the other end revises their specification. Then the build that was meant to save budget becomes a permanent maintenance loop, quietly pulling your best engineers off the work that actually grows the business. What is a B2B integration network, and why does it change the maths? A B2B integration network is a single, shared connection point that links your business to every trading partner already on it, rather than a separate custom link for each one. You connect once, and you reach everyone inside, without building anything new for the next relationship, or the hundredth. That one distinction rewrites the economics of onboarding. In a point-to-point world, the time and cost of trading climbs in a straight line with every partner you add; growth is something your architecture has to survive. On a network, the opposite happens. Every new participant makes the network more valuable to everyone already connected. We call it A2A: Anyone-to-Anyone. The relationships you can reach grow exponentially while the connections you maintain stay at exactly one. Think of it the way we do. We’ve spent two decades building the motorway, the Transalis Trading Network, and the point of a motorway is that you don’t lay fresh tarmac for every journey. You join it once and go anywhere it reaches. (Our favourite illustration: in Switzerland, where flat open land is scarce, stretches of motorway are engineered to double as air-force runways. Infrastructure built for one job quietly becomes infrastructure for many.) Today that network spans 15,000+ connections and trading partners, processes 30m+ transactions a year, and reaches 98% of the electronically-trading UK retail market. The odds are that your next trading partner is already on it. #### Outcomes, not software Here is the part that matters most to anyone responsible for the architecture: joining the network is not the same as buying another tool to run. Transalis is a managed outcomes provider for B2B integration, EDI, eInvoicing and marketplaces, which means we take ownership of the formats, the protocols and the constantly shifting message standards on your behalf. You should never have to staff a team of in-house EDI specialists to keep trade flowing, and you certainly shouldn’t have to learn what sits underneath. We swallow that complexity entirely. When a partner changes a rule at their end, it’s our problem to absorb, not a fire drill for your engineers. Your architecture stays clean: one integration into your existing ERP through our proven Transalis OpenEDI™ foundation, and a single point of access to everything beyond it. That’s the whole idea behind a phrase we’ve used for years. It’s EDI Made Simple. #### How do you actually reduce trading partner onboarding time? You reduce it by changing what “onboarding” means. In the old model, onboarding is construction: mapping, coding and testing a brand-new link from scratch. On a network, onboarding is enablement: switching on a route to a partner who, in most cases, is already connected. Construction takes months. Enablement takes hours, days at most. This isn’t theory. Brands like Argos, AS Watson and Superdrug came to us having outgrown chaotic, manual setups that leaned on large in-house EDI teams, and scaled from a single major retailer to thousands of trading partners and marketplaces, without adding a single head to their operations or IT departments. They didn’t get faster at building connections. They stopped building them. And because the same connection carries every message type (orders, dispatch notes, invoices, forecasts, stock and sales data), the value keeps compounding long after go-live. Most providers behave like a digital postman: they drop the document and walk away. With Transalis DataTrack™, that flow stops being a silent stream of files landing in an archive and becomes total transaction visibility: live business intelligence you can actually run operations on. #### The shift worth making What we’re really arguing for is a change of mindset. Stop treating each new trading relationship as something to be engineered, and start treating trade as something you join. The businesses that win the next few years won’t be the ones with the biggest integration teams. They’ll be the ones who decided their architecture should get simpler as they grow, not more tangled. Your next trading partner is waiting on a connection. It should take hours, days at most. If it’s taking months, that timeline is telling you something about your model, and there’s a better one. #### The real cost of the old onboarding timeline Independent research into UK businesses' EDI arrangements found that under the traditional onboarding model, the average wait to add a single UK-based trading partner was two months, stretching to three months when the partner traded internationally. Multiply that across a growing list of retailers, marketplaces and suppliers, and it becomes clear why in-house teams spend more time managing an onboarding queue than running the business that depends on it. #### One partner onboarded in a week, not months Beauty brand Space NK is a real-world example of enablement over construction. When it moved onto the Transalis network, the first trading partner was onboarded within a single week, with the rest of its network brought on quickly once that first connection had proved out. That single week, not month after month of mapping and testing, is what onboarding looks like once the network already carries the standards, formats and connections a new partner needs. #### Frequently asked questions Can you integrate with our specific ERP? Yes. Transalis integrates directly with major ERPs, marketplaces and procurement hubs, giving you a single point of access rather than a separate link for each system. You make one connection from your existing ERP, whether that is NetSuite, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics or another, and we handle the translation behind it. Do we need internal EDI experts to manage it? No. Transalis is a fully managed outcome, which means we take ownership of the formats, transmission protocols and constantly shifting message standards on your behalf. Your team never has to learn what an EDIFACT file is or chase a partner’s spec change, so you don’t need to hire or retain in-house EDI specialists. How do we track whether an order or invoice actually arrived? Through Transalis DataTrack, which gives real-time visibility of every transaction across the network. You can see what was sent, received and processed rather than discovering a problem when a delivery is turned away, so exceptions surface early enough to act on instead of becoming chargebacks.
